2006 zx10r (386) dry weight!!!!

Wow can you believe this damn talk about getting on a diet.... the reason i know this is that i work in a dealership and we just got one in looked at the owners manual and boom there it was dry weight (386). that 11.1 pounds heavier than last year. i guess that what all the manufacteres get for undertail exhaust.

Ya I'll bet that gain is almost all in the exhaust. I liked the first version better.

Re: 2006 zx10r (386) dry weight!!!!

Over at bikeland.org they did a wet weight side-by-side comparo between the '05 and '06 10Rs. Both bikes were stock and had approx. the same fuel level.

'05 = 408lbs.
'06 = 437lbs.

Obviously, there could be some error factor in there, but damn! 29lbs for that exhaust?

Glad I've got the '04...

I think everyone that has an 04-05 should be very happy with themselves. The new one is butt ass ugly. As for the weight, that's pretty crazy they would gain that much to "improve" a bike.

Sorta. They aren't really claiming a big increase in power so much as improved power delivery. Increased flywheel mass and changes to the ECU/FI system to smooth power delivery. I think I read that Kwack is claiming another 2hp at peak or something of the sort.

The chassis changes (geometry, swingarm pivot location and length, steering head angles, etc.) are much more interesting to me. Should be a much easier bike to ride fast 'round a track. Too bad it's sooooo fugly.

I think I read somewhere the exhaust has about 12 lbs in it that can easily be fixed with just a half system.

Oh, and I think they look awesome!

but those few more pounds also help make it a little more stable (as does the new geometry)

Re: 2006 zx10r (386) dry weight!!!!

power to weight ratio won't be an issue (for me...) It has like 20 or 30hp more than my 954 ever did?

Yep. I still have my 954, but after riding the 10 for a while, the 954 feels more like a 750 than a litre-bike. Still a great bike (or I wouldn't still have it), but definitely a difference in HP between the 2.
