Now all you need are a few Honda decals to make it faster.

Awesome bike! I was reading about it on MO yesterday and it sounds like it coulda won the shootout except they thought the Suzuki was more comfortable. What is this world coming to?
By the way, I like the stock exhaust. The gold endcaps go well with the wheels.

The seating is very very different from my Sprint... much more agressive than the 954 was and even more agressive than the 636...

Not bad for a track oriented sport-bike, but I am glad I am keeping the Sprint!

It's pretty aggressive for sure.

But it felt downright posh after the MV...that thing has about as pure a race position as you can imagine.

Buy one, you'll never find a Japanese bike uncomfortable again.

I bet we would be good to travel together... we would both be looking for frequent stops

I am ordering the bolt ons... A light smoke tinted windscreen, some spare levers, swing arm sliders, and galfer ss brake lines.

I still don't have good data on if there are frame sliders that won't require cutting the fairing. I think the satos will...

Yes they poo-pooed the Honda because it was too responsive and steers too quickly.

I just read it... yeah the rank order makes no sense...

They all sound pretty awesome. Some folks on the zx forums made it sound like they bashed the zx-10... they didn't really say anything bad about any of the bikes...

You'll be happy to know that it didn't get last place in the new Roadracing World - that dubious distinction went to the Ducati 999S. It was, however, fourth out of five - surprisingly! Again, surprisingly, the Suzuki took first!

Was it like the MO one where they didn't have anything bad to say about it other than it was a bit agressive in the position? Did they have any substantive criticisms? I still haven't gotten my RRW yet...

The only thing surprising about that is RRW didn't put Honda dead last.
Ulrich is so one-sided it is disgusting. They always pick the Suzukis first due to the dollars and always bag on Honda. When they don't tear the Honda to shreds you know the bike is an outstanding machine.

Re: My new black 2006 ZX-10R...

I think what Suzuki will be winning hands down this year is the 600 shootouts... I saw them at Ron Ayers when I was waiting on my bike. If I could have, I would have picked up a silver or blue one... That think was niiiice....

I really am not worried about these shootouts. I have yet to see anything bad said about the bike. Any of them really.

They actually had Honda second. They made it sound as though it was very close, but that the Gixxer was a more "balanced" total package.

Wow, that's impressive. And if that's the case, the Honda may be a better bike.
In the WSBK races, it certainly looked as though the Honda is the better bike through and out of the corners. Maybe that will be the case at some real tracks in the AMA. The 'Zook still looked to have a bit extra motor, though.

They said the ZX-10R was an absolute missle, but they didn't like the on/off throttle response. They said that installing a PC and remapping the fuel injection for racing use would probably fix the problem. They also said they were surprised it didn't feel more "flickable" through the turns. They loved the acceleration, braking, and tachometer. It came in third in both best overall lap time, and best average lap time.

Other comments about the Kawasaki:
  • Absurdly fast - if other bikes feel like 1000cc, it feels like 1200cc
  • Riding position is as comfortable as the best of the bunch
  • More stable mid-corner than the previous ZX-10R
  • Brakes are among the best
Horsepower on dyno was 155.65 for the ZX-10R, with the Suzuki next at 151.38. Honda was third with 147.06.

Re: My new black 2006 ZX-10R...

Thanks for the summary!

I can't say too much as I have about 15 miles on the bike, and nothing over 6k rpm but I like it so far

I wonder with the taller rear sidewall if it just needs more rear ride height? I can't wait to get to the track to try it out!

This has been going on for years, but it seems to be getting worse (not that I would refer to all of the Big 4 making awesome bikes as a negative thing). All the bikes in these shootouts are so good that the difference between them is usually the rider. Some folks pick a winner for being easy to ride, while others pick the more hardcore racer setups. Might as well just buy what looks good to you.
