ZX14 exhaust

I hope this isn't a dumb question. The ZX14 comes with a 4 into 2 exaust. After market exhausts, and even slip-ons will no doubt be available, touting weight loss and HP increases, not to mention better looks.

Don't you think Kaw engineers would put the best exhaust available on a bike like this?

On a positive note, the header is clearly visible in the pics I've seen. It looks like stainless. I love the titanium header on my 929, but you can't see it behind all the plastic

The best-performing exhaust will not meet EPA noise and emmissions regulations, so the answer is no.

Re: ZX14 exhaust

I had a feeling.

A car usually holds 2-4 people. A bike carries 1-2. I think bikes should be allowed to produce 1/2 the qty of emissions that cars release.

Lucky the EPA only abuses the manufacturers and not the owners (as much).

Re: ZX14 exhaust

Well now I've seen and heard one, I'm pretty happy with the exhaust. It's got a nice throaty rumble. It's great. I bought one today. The only bad thing, is the owner's manual says to keep the RPM under 4k for 500 mi.

Re: ZX14 exhaust

The exhaust is actually a 4-1-2. I have no idea why, but that's what it is.

As far as exhaust systems, go with Muzzy. Rob Muzzy has proven his design on the ZX-14 several times over now with the pre-production bikes.

Yeah. Maybe it's for the best. Gives you an orientation period before unleashing the power. That first gear is scary.

Re: ZX14 exhaust

Bikes like the XX, Busa and ZX-14 have large displacement big-bore engines which produce alot of noise (ever heard a Busa at idle?- they literally throb).

If manufacturers put single cans on bikes like these, they'd have to be HUGE, ungainly mufflers. So they elect to run dual can systems instead.

Besides, these are GT Class machines and alot of owners of these bikes like the two can look and never seek to change exhaust.

Re: ZX14 exhaust

I can't wait to see and hear one with dual slip-ons. Maybe I'll go that route, but I think it would be best to get a power commander first, then a quick shifter, and then the exhaust. That all adds up, so I'll leave it stock for now.
