| 04 ZX 10 generator problems Those of you at grattan may have heard, Kawboy was going through T2 and lost power very rapidly. He first thought it was the tire giving way and the CW radio'ed in to tell him that he thought the motor was locking up. He took it down in the lower paddock and run it a few timed and no noises and back in the pits no noise that indicated anything wrong with the engine. That was the last session of the day and we did not ride on the third day so he got the bike back home and went down the street and run it through the gears and around 10 - 11k RPM it soundd like **** and rattling while loosing power.
The 04's have an oil gallery problem where the gallery does not provide enough oil to the bearings which burns everything up in there. I just got it apart this afternoon and it was the generator. That is kind of a good thing being that it is not the motor but the generator is quite expensive (just under a grand).
We are trying to find the parts now and will go back with parts from an 05 model that had a bigger gallery drilled to bandaid the problem. The 06's have a standard alternator and alleviated the issue altogether. |

| Re: 04 ZX 10 generator problems so you mean the oil galley in the mainshaft was insufficiently sized?
The 2004 PN is 13234-0021 , and I notice the 05 gets a 13234-0023, and some of the other gears also change part numbers as well...but the mainshaft is only 130$ and some change. Is this the part that you are changing? or do you mean the galleys in the coupler itself do not permit enough oil to the mainshaft?
The stator itself is the same, as are most of the seals - so I am assuming the shaft o.d. is the same, so I'd think just getting a new center pole/mainshaft would work for the issue - although I question what the other parts were changed for as well...
Either way, holy expensive batman! What kinda oil did you run in that and what mileage did it have on it?

| Re: 04 ZX 10 generator problems Basicly the heat fubared everything: shaft, stator, bushings and casings. So that is where the whole thing comes in, I cannot get the cover (that has the heat marks on it) to come off of the shaft from the stator being fubared. |

While the POS is down, pull that front MC banjo bolt out so as he can take it to Indy and get a banjo bleeder...

| Re: 04 ZX 10 generator problems Had this happen to my '04 when it was less than a year old. It was fixed under warranty. There are a number of parts that have been updated and not all are obvious by the part numbers.
I had problems with Kawasaki getting the proper parts and info to the dealership that fixed it. But finally (after 3 months) was able to get some help from a Kawasaki corporate guy that frequents the Bikeland.org website ZX-10R forum after pitching a major fit on the boards.
He goes by the screenname of "extremelean", and was very helpful in getting my situation resolved. If you PM him, he will likely be able to supply you with a proper list of parts that need to be replaced in order to fix it so that it doesn't happen again.
If you want any more details, PM me. Unfortunately, I have a lot of experience with this. But the good news is, since the rebuild the bike hasn't had any more problems.
And for QuikMike: I've never heard of an '05 having this problem. Seems it was resolved for '05 with the updated parts. And as others have mentioned, the '06 has a completely new design. Generator spinning at twice crankshaft speed. Duh. |

| He is supposed to be over this afternoon, so he can see the carnage for himself. May convince him to take the bolt., but then again I do need an advantage. Last year was the pinch bolt,,,,,what next...... Quote:

| That is just for stray cats and black birds that get in the yard. It is just a 177cal pellet rifle. |

if it wasn't for the pics I'd probably think you were the same person. | His mechanical level and patients is streatching on an oil change. He is a pretty good size boy and he gets pissed when things don't exectly go the way he wants them to, so the bike is at a serious disadvantage at this point and I would hate to see the bike destroyed with a 20 lb sledge hammer.
I enjoy doing mechanic work at as long as someone else is paying the bills. |

Took like 1.5 hours to get the damn things to start bleeding (and that was after spending probably an hour cleaning the calipers cause there was a ton of dust caked on). Had to take the speed bleeders out and use the regular stock one to get them started.
