| Re: 2006 Kawasaki ZX-10R thoughts Can any one tell me if they had problems with the 06 ZX10R front shocks that start to leak oil? Mine is leaking quite badly. I took the bike to the dealer and they (Kawasaki SA) recons me that it is not a guarantee job... Apperently seals on a new bike with 1190milles on it would be classiefied as wear and tear... So the dealer will repair it but i have to pay for it... |

The only things that can damage them short term is severe pitting of the fork legs allowing foreign objects to damage the seal lip, or after extremely high mileage worn fork bushings allowing oil to work past the seal lip, or simply a worn seal over thousands of miles when the seal lip eventually gets flattened.....and then lastly sheer age where the seal gets hard over time, (especially if the bike is not ridden for a long time), but that takes many years. Basically fork seals should work as designed for many many thousands of miles under normal conditions.
Your dealer is full of crap.......go to the manufacturer.

I shown the dealer the oil leak he said it's nothing to worry about... The lady at Kawasaki SA(the manufacturer) told me that they don't cover it, even if it was a problem from new... ****, i should have bought a honda!!
O yes, and no i don't do stunts

It is obvious that the bike was faulty off the showroom floor and both the dealer and Kawasaki should stand behind the product. You can complain to all the relevant consumer affairs type organizations and try to pressure some action, but all that will take time. If you have any mechanical knowledge/ability changing fork seals is not that big a deal, and would cost next to nothing to do if you did the work yourself. Barring that I would take it to a repair shop (other than the dealer you bought it from) and get the problem fixed, because the bike is useless in its current condition. And yes, this must sour you on Kawasakis forever. |

| Re: Problem with 2006 ZX-10R forks Thats bull S*@t that they will not cover it. You should ride the bike right through the dealers window.. Ok well that is not going to fix you problem..
Only thing now you can use this as a excuse to upgrade your fork internals. |

| Re: Problem with 2006 ZX-10R forks sounds like the part was defective right off the bat. definetly go in and raise hell like others have said. if you complain enough they should fix it. its not a hard fix (as was said) so I don't see why they wouldn't do it just to shut you up. |

| Re: Problem with 2006 ZX-10R forks Here in the USA, we can do our own scheduled maintenance, keep records and not void the warrantee. (Maybe Canada too) However, it is my understanding that all scheduled maintenance in the UK must be done by the dealer and have an official stamp in the record log to prove it in order not to void the warrantee.
If that is true, could South Africa possibly have warrantee guidelines that specify fork seals as consumable items, such as tires? If so, perhaps mileage doesn't matter. Sucks, I know...but could it be possible? |

| Re: Problem with 2006 ZX-10R forks I think there might have been a few fellas with a similar problem over at Kawasaki ZX-10R.net - Sorry Cong, not trying to steal customers. Anyhoo, check it out and see if this is a common problem or not.
They should be doing something to help you out though, especially if it's been like that from the start. I take it you tried quoting the dealers words back to him at the start and he didn't like it too much. Bummer ... |

Well according to Kawasaki SA, The dealer should have reported it to them when i reported it to the dealer.Because they see all type off seals as a consumable item... So the dealer came with a compramise... If i pay for the seals, they will pay for the oil and the labor... So i told them to replace both fork seals.... What do you think? Is that a fair deal?

| Re: Problem with 2006 ZX-10R forks WOW they lent you a bike. that would never happen in the US. motorcycles in general are considered toys. i have never heard of someone getting a loaner from a dealer before! I think you did well considering. i still think they should have taken care of everything parts labor etc.
good you kept at it labor is expensive! |
