2006 ZX6-R Tramission Problems

I've just taken my 06 ZX 6-R to the a dealer in London after it keeps jumping out of third gear.
Really annoyed as it has only done 8000 miles and is only 5 or 6 months out of warranty

The bike has never been tracked and i don't consider myself hard on bikes as most of my mileage comes from riding to and from work.

Have had a real hassle trying to find a garage to do the work. My local dealer in Guildford (Portmans) had a look at it a month ago but said that they could not look at fixing it until 2010..... Luckily Kawasaki UK sorted out a dealer in London who have taken it straight away.

Has anyone else heard of these bike having tramission failures as it just seems really weird for a bike that new to go horriblly wrong

Cheers

Steve

Re: 2006 ZX6-R Tramission Problems

Sadly a very close friend of mine just went through the very same thing last summer. It was found that a faulty bearing went in the transmission causing a shift fork to bend. His bike is a 2006 ZX636 and had just over 4000 miles on it. Even after a local dealer identified the issue as a defect Kawasaki first said they would cover it then came back and said they would only cover the bearing and the shift fork which was a little under $85 on a $1700 repair. This is a known issue by Kawasaki, you should start calling their local corporate offices as soon as possible.

Funny thing every time you ask a dealer or Kawasaki UK if there is known problem with the bike you get a shurg of the shoulders and 'No we have never had any problems with these before'

I will know more once they pull the thing to bits.
Just waiting for the thing to get sorted as I've already got an agreed part exchange price on a new Blade.

Steve - it sounds like you are getting the speach from the Kawasaki list of responses. We heard the same thing. Wish you well in this endeavor, let me know if you hear anything weird from the dealer.

Just spoken to the Dealer they have they have stated that they have stripped the bike ( 3 hours to do, i don't think so) and that most of the gears, drums and selectors need replacing at a cost including labour of £1700

Have also been on the phone to Kawasaki U.K who have stated that it isn't their problem and that i'm going to have to pay for the lot...

I cannot beleive that a bike that is only 2 and a half years old and 8000 miles should be in this state just through wear and tear.
I have ridden Bikes for over 20 years and never had a gearbox problem ever before.

Time to write a letter to Motorcycle News I think.

Anyone else thinking of buying one these my only suggestion is DON'T.

Re: 2006 ZX6-R Tramission Problems

Those responses from the dealer sound all too familiar.... when you get your repair order for the parts let me know and I will fax you the one I have for this bike. I will bet they are the same parts. Pretty much they replaced 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th gear in this tranny. I agree with your statement about the Kawi, although it is fun to ride on the track. Stick with the Hondas..... I have never had any major problems with any of the 14 hondas I have owned. Sorry for your luck with that one.

Took the words out of my mouth..... or fingers.....Anyway I had a zx6r I bought brand new in 1999, and in about 2000 miles I kept hearing a strange noise in the motor, I brought it back to the dealer and it had a bad cam chain. Luckily kawasaki ate the cost of the repair. Now it is only Honda for me. But I do still like Suzuki.

Funny you should say that as I've just put a deposit down on a brand new Fireblade

Just need to get the Ninja back up and running as it is for P/X on the deal.

Although i have managed to find a complete gearbox on E Bay for £195

Cheers

Steve
