Wiring up a LED tail light

I have a small LED brake/tail light which i wish to run from a small 12v battery, my Enduro bike runs on AC and has not got enough power to run the lights & stop light, so off the bike when i connect the wires to the battery im getting the tail light to work, but when i pull the brake light switch nothing happens, i have two black wires coming from brake light switch & Three wires coming from LED light red/yellow & black.
Can anyone tell me what wire is likely to go where from both switch & light unit & what requires an earth, also is this possible from my worktop direct to the battery (just want brakelight working from the LED unit & not tail light as i have original light on bike for the tail light). Hope someone can advise?
