Union's (along with the Labour government) are what killed off the British car manufacturers!

I still want a TR6 with a chevy small block... But to digress....

That's what is happening in here in the US. Our own standards are killing our own companies. In the mid 80's American makes where all but dead. Not just that it was hard to employ the workforce. But the workforce itself fought for their own benefits and jobs. The Japanese sweep ed in. And I can't see that as a bad thing. They employed hundreds of thousands of people. To build a superior product for OUR market. We STILL build our cars.

The employees should never be allowed to hinder business. The Koreans have stepped up their game in the last decade. World Rally Car might be one of the best melting pots for a world wide proving ground. I haven't followed it closely for a few years.(not the point) If our FAMILY in S.Korea wants to share with us, and they have a superior idea for building a quality products cheeper..... SWEET! lets do it up!

We cyclist are rare in that our bikes are imported. Our Japanese brothers and sisters built them. If you ride a Honda bike, check your VIN. I bet it is JPN. JPN means built in JAPAN!

As an asshole American, I have huge respect for Japan. I have huge respect for ANYONE that has a superior business model. NO out of country manufacturer is under union labor stress. That is aiding their profit, and their ability to provide jobs in ALL and our market.

If we want to remain capitialist. We have to embrace it. I don't care where your from or what color your flag is. If you have a good product, I want to buy it. And better yet.... to save YOU money let us build your product. Import costs alone are hard. Think about Loopies Meat vs bikes thread..... We have to pull our weight to.

Re: US Car Manufacturers - Government Bail Out

Sorry I worry that my comment about the Japanse manufacters can be taken wrong.

THEY employed us to build their cars for us!!!

They bypassed imports by letting us build our own cars. And I dunno about you but they have done great work in the neighborhood of long lasting machines. For realz.

on all you said. If 'X' country makes a product better and cheaper than my country - great. If my country doesn't like it, then do something constructive about it. Learn how those other countries are doing it better and adopt those methods. In time, perhaps, improve on those methods and make something even better and cheaper.

I think GM has the same spiel but they just change the country name. If they get a dime, the management has to go.
