Re: Do MV Agusta F4's require massive maintence like a Ducati? They have one major known issue, and that is the wiring harness' tend to go bad. It can happen as early as 500 miles.

Re: Do MV Agusta F4's require massive maintence like a Ducati? So i have been looking at getting myself a used F4 for my graduation present to myself (still 2 years away). I've been looking on F4 forums and it seems that they have problems with the Fuel injectors. At $300 a injector (yikes) anyone know if this is true?

If you actually compare the recommended maintenance of a Honda to the recommended maintenance of the Ducati it isn't too far off on the new Ducati's. The main difference is that Ducati is pretty hard line about "insisting" that they do the maintenance rather than you doing it yourself. However, they can't legally not honor the warranty as long as you have performed the maintenance. You don't have to have them do it, they just try to make you think that.
As far as the MV, I think that people are telling you the known issues. The basic problem is that parts for Italian motorcycles are a little more expensive. They aren't being mass produced in the same quantities as other bikes and aren't being produced by cheap labor. I've been planning a new bike purchase for the new year and have narrowed my choices to the 600RR and the 848. The difference in MSRP is $3400. Figure getting a few hundred off that on the 600RR where you won't ever get a Ducati below MSRP and the difference is more like $3800. However the Ducati has Marchesini's and Brembo brakes. That right there adds up to $2750-$3000. The remaining $800 dollar difference is easily justified. Dollar for dollar the maintenance ends up fairly close as well. Throw in the MUCH better resale value of a Ducati (or MV) and things become pretty equal. Other people will look at it completely different and will always think you're nuts but it just comes down to what you like and what you want. If the MV is what floats your boat and you can actually afford it then go for it. If you are going without food or really stretching yourself to be able to afford the extra money then you can't truly afford it.

Re: Do MV Agusta F4's require massive maintence like a Ducati? Yes Ducati want 's to do the maintence because of the desmodromic valves. They do not adjust like the shim under bucket valves on our bikes. They Mv's are pretty bullit proof. BUt they are very uncofortable to ride long periods on the street.

| Yeah, and that part I have no problem paying for. But Ducati tries to say that you will void your warranty if you change you own oil. The "mandatory" 600 mile service is just to retorque everything and top off fluids. I can do that in 45 min for a cost of $0 but they want $200 for it. Honda has the same 600 mile service but they don't try to push it as being so "mandatory" to avoid warranty problems.

Re: Do MV Agusta F4's require massive maintence like a Ducati? hi there stegan I have an mv agusta f4 thou and a fireblade rr thats why i'm here .the answer to your question is no servicing for the mv is basically the same as any inline 4 and should cost you about the same money ,maybe the parts mite be more expensive. the ride height of your m'c must always be set even after you adjust your chain using a special ride height adjusting tool ,dont forget to ask this if your garage adjusts your chain . parts are a lot cheaper than a ducati and for handling use pirelli corsas or super corsers . you can also find out on mvagusta.net a forum for mv enthusiasts .when logged in look for ade critten from ballaugh isle of man and he'll help you all he can he only live down the road from me which is handy but if you have any questions he'll help you cheers ray williams {mr mv agusta}
