Susuki 93 GSX-R 600

Hello,
Recently an old friend of mine gave me an offer on his Susuki 93 GSX-R 600 f, for $600, whch he recently purchased for $500, reason to sell was that he just aquired a speeding ticket of $380 from last year and is just now needing to pay for it, bad timing for the courts I'd say, anywho, I put down 300 for him to hold it and 300 to buy, so, the bike is mine, 18K miles, no title (lost NOT stolen, contacted original owner to get it switched over to me so im in the clear) But hey, here we are, I have never owned a bike before so Im looking as to what to do next before I even attempt the road.

I was thinking safety courses, insurance, gear, but thats basic stuff im sure.
Any suggestions?

Turning 20 april 9th, kind of an early b-day present for myself =]

Re: 93 CBR 600f

yuppers.. take the beginner course and the advance course.. before you even think of buying an exhaust or anything pretty for the bike, gear up.. boots, gloves, jacket, helmet.. and just take it slow..

Re: Susuki 93 GSX-R 600

I second everyone elses suggestions.

The MSF courses are really good.

As for gear, get the best you can afford, but make sure to have everything. You have no idea how important gloves are until you need them, the helmet and jacket can both be gotten for about $100 bucks each if you dont have them...make sure the helmet is DOT approved, and if its SNELL approved even better. Wear boots or shoes that cover the ankle and have good grip on the sole, dont worry about buying insane racing boots they arent necessary for street riding.

Another thing you will want to do is make sure everyting on that bike you bought is working properly and in working condition.

Change the oil, check the plugs, check the chain and sprockets, check the brake pads and consider having a shop change your brake fluid. Also make sure the rubber you are riding on isnt as old as the bike is and make sure they are properly inflated.

Since you are in contact with the original owner ask him what he/she might have done to the bike? Has it been down? Has anything in the motor been replaced? Has it been in for servicing? etc.

It sounds like alot but taking care of all this will make owning a bike alot more simple down the line...trust me i learned all this the hard way with my first bike
