Total Bike Noob Here. Need Advice.

Hey everybody,
I'm new not only to this forum but to motorcycles as well. I'm in the process of trying to learn a bit about riding so hopefully, when spring comes around I can purchase my first bike and enjoy the fun of riding a bike.

So I'm 21 years old and currently drive a Jeep during the winter (I go to school in Iowa) but during the warmer seasons I drive a 2000 Dodge Viper around. So I am familiar with how to properly operate a clutch and all that. Really all I want to know is what would be a good first bike for a newbie. I'm 6 foot 1 and weigh about 220 pounds. My buddy has a Honda CBR1000 and he's who got me into bikes. He said that the CBR600 would be a good beginner bike. I was reading a bit about the CBR600RR and from what I can tell, it seems like a legit starter bike.

I don't know, I'm a total newbie at this stuff. All I'm really looking for is some advice on what would be a good starter bike for me to learn on. Thanks everybody.

600RR is just fine ... respect the bike and it will respect you. Just remember you'll never out ride what any bike can do so LEARN what YOU can do and what YOUR limits are.

Good Luck and welcome to the addiction.

Re: Total Bike Noob Here. Need Advice.

I started out on a 600 and found it OK. If I were you I would try a CBR600F as well as an RR - the F is less extreme and would probably be a better bet as a first bike.

I had a 600F, it'll still make your hair stand on end when you crank the throttle!!!!!

Re: Total Bike Noob Here. Need Advice.

I'd go with the guys above, the CBR600F is a great bike to start on, a lot more forgiving than the CBR600RR.

Make sure you book yourself into all the motorcycle courses on offer and get yourself proper kitted out with the correct gear. I kept seeing riders with no helmet/gloves and some without even shoes on when I went out there.

Re: Total Bike Noob Here. Need Advice.

The big worry with a bike is that they are way more dangerous than a car. Especially if you are an aggressive rider.
Only you know what you are like on the road, but if you drive fast then Id suggest you get a bike that isnt that powerful and spend some time learning to ride and getting use to traffic (it is different on a bike!)

Sure you can start on something like a CBR600 - but with the wrong attitude it can be a quick way to the hospital (or worse)

Re: Total Bike Noob Here. Need Advice.

i have an cbr600f4i trust its more then enough power to throw your ass back in the seat well at least for myself im 5'8 175 and my ass leaves the seat in first, second, nd third when i crank up the throttle.. bikes very smooth and easy to drive extremly nimble, and riding position isnt to bad either on your back or your wrists unlike the 600rr so your back will be thanking you later..
also i got my gear before i even bought the bike.. helmet, gloves, jacket, nd boots... thinking bout some pants pretty soon..

but welcome to the addiction

also just a quik question how in the hell are you 21 and drive a viper??
