| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? I see a few guys complaining about Shoei, I bought myself and X-eleven and the thing is loud. It ridiculous, its so loud that after long rides my left ear starts hurting like hell...its really weird cause my other Shoei (the old waldman replica) is the same size and super comfortable.
i've just spend $500 on a helmet and i need to think of a replacement...it sucks.
ps. to the guy who said his dealer pronounced it shu-ee....its your dealer scottish by any chance? |

whoops...no earplugs but I don't get the same problem with my other helmet, it is wind pressure I think peculiar to this helmet as even with the stock exhaust I would get the same problem. |

| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? Always a good idea to wear earplugs. Well ventilated helmets are going to have a lot of wind noise. |

| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? I use to wear a Shoei & now recently wear an AGV, both are pretty good if i had to choose one of them it would be the AGV. Simply cause i think it is more comfortable than the Shoei. Cheers!!! |

| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? I have always prefered the more established brands like Shoe and Arai, I damaged my last helmet (Shoe TZ-1) In a crash last October at Eastern Creek, and havent been on the bike since, well my bike anyway. I have been pretty busy since, recovering, Buying a new unit, and helping a mate with his race effort this year so havent really had any time to fix my own bike up, anyway to cut a long story short plan on going for a ride this weekend if weather permits So went past the local Motorcycle accessorie's outlet yesterday and noticed they were having a sale, so I went in and bought a Foggy replica Shark RFS2 and couldnt be happier with it, looks great feels comfortable (around the lounge room anyway) I got it for a real good price but was willing to pay for a an Arai RX7 corsair but actually like the shark better (looks and comfort)

| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? Can I change my vote? I bought a Shark this weekend and I'll be taking a sledge to the poor old shoei soon. I had an RF900 which fit me really well, but I couldn't find a size of rf1000 that fit properly. Icon, HJC, Suomy, and Arais did not fir at all. The shark fir perfect, and I like the vents and screen detachment. |

| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? toddfather: I have to disagree with you, the scorpion helmets are on the heavy side. It is not as heavy as cheap $100 helmets, but definetely heavier then my Arai rx7-rr4. Good helmets none the less.
BTW: I am thinking of selling my Scorpion EXO-700 (GERONIMO - Yellow). It is brand new - practically - used for 1 ride! Size is XL (they tend to run smaller then shoei etc.) and I also have a brand new chin areo wind guard and a brand new silver visor to go with it. PM me or I guess I will put it in For Sale forum soon. Reason for sale: I am a brand whore and got the arai rx7-rr4 . |

| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? I own like 5 helmets right now, starting with my old Shoei RF800. then my AGV X-Vent, KBC VR-1, Shoei X-11 and finally, the best one of all my AGV Ti-Tech.
To be honest I'm using 3 helmets only, the old AGV X-vent, which is an amazing helmet, very comfertable, quiet but a little havy, also, I'm using the Shoei X-11 which is also very comfertable ( but less then both AGV's) and quiet, the helmet is very small and very light which is good...and best for last, my custom designed AGV Ti-Tech, now this helmet isn't small as the Shoei but it is lighter, very very comfertable ( AGV offered all Ti-Tech buyers to go to the dealership and change the interior to fit their own heads, I have pads of medium and medium\small combined to fit my head ) this helmet looks like an alien design, very very quiet and well ventilized, it comes with a build in chin guard that fold in and out...what else....ohh, did I mentioned it is damn light ??!!!
I don't realy know how to post pic's here but I would love to do so, I had it painted in my design and I think it look BADDDD !!!!!!!!

| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? I have and have worn Shoei's because they fit my budget and my head. I get that hot spot, headache thing too... I tried a larger size but it was too loose.
Next time, I will switch to an Arai or try something new like Suomy or AGV or something. |

Originally Posted by HondaGalToo The new Shoei X-11 is supposed to fit "Arai heads"... | I've just been shoppoing for a new lid, after finally deciding that living with a helmet with a question mark over it is just not worth it (TZ1 just touched down during a slide, visor was scraped but only mark on the lid is a 1/2 cm long scratch. I dont think that there was any real impact, but at the end of the day, I can't tell). I shopped around through every brand I could find - paid particular attention to an HJC A11 and a Shoei XR1000 (these LOOK identical to the RF1000, is there a change in model name btw countries or are they made to different specs?) after reading the Ride helmet reviews (and conveniently a dealer here has both going at 1/3 off!). I'm usually an XL - but the XL A11 had some hotpots on my forehead, and the XXL was just too big. Pity, it looked like a great helmet for the $, only issues seemed to be they marked a little easily (even on the shelf) and the lip vent looked a little fragile.
The Shoei was a little different. Again the XXL was too big, but the XL was a little tight on the cheeks. After trying on a few XLs tough I started to notice that there was a SLIGHT difference btw individual lids. While this might be compression due to other people trying them on before, I suspect that there may be some manufacturing tolerances involved too. Anyway, I settled on a virgin Diabolic fresh out out of the box that seemed to just have a little more room than the others (much thanks to the sales guys for putting up with my requests to try so many on). Worst case if it doesnt loosen up as expected around the cheeks I'll try a replacement cheek pad thats a little thinner.
Anyway, before I settled on the XR, I tried on an X11. I've had people tell me they wouldnt fit, but damn if it wasnt the best fitting helmet I've ever tried. Loved the thing, but had to put it down quickly before I found myself spending almost double what I would on the XR. If I thought there were realistic safety differences btw the XR1000 and the X11 I would have thought harder about forking over the difference - but going by the Ride review, theres a number of cases where cheaper models in a manufacturers range ended up doing better than the top models. Wish I'd had some firmer details about how the X11 rated.... Anyway X11 fitted great, tried a bunch of Arais and none of them felt even remotely decent. Maybe thats just me.... |

| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? Used to use a Shoe z2, but found that a scorpion exo 700 f(i know it's cheap, but it fit right) just fit right. I had an air pocket or space at the top of my z2 that irritated me. I've never found a helmet I could use without earplugs. Any of you ride without earplugs? I ask this with one prerequisite. Do you know that driving in your car with the window down produces a sound level of 83DB and that hearing loss or damage starts around that point? The sound inside your helmet is about 91 DB conservatively. It’s more like 100 or above. Best regards and thanks for a great forum! Ross See you in the hills. and know i don't work for osha or any other bloody hearing cops. just curious. |

| Re: What brand helmet do you wear? I'm on my 3rd Shoei Z-One within a year, 2 have been destroyed in crashes without any head injuries so they seem to work ok. No cool colours for me, I seem to be going through helmets almost as fast as brake pads so I don't feel like spending much money on something that gets replaced quite often. |

On my perfect hybrid helmet, I'd like to have the release system of the Shoei, but with the smooth detentless action of the Arai... | The good news is that because it's detented you can probably take apart the hinge, file off a bump or two, and have a detent-less system meeting your above description... of course there won't be any clutch-like operation to it and will probably swing free as it was designed to use detents...
For my first helmet I got to try on a Shoei 1000 and then had them order up an X-11. If I'm gonna blow the money on something I just assume do it once. |
