Fireblades Downtime

Scheduled Downtime - Oh no!

Wednesday, April 23rd at 11:00pm EDT - We have to take the server offline for about 5 - 10 mins to install another hard drive. Everything going to plan we should be back online before you can get back to your PC with a fresh coffee....

Thanks for the notice. For the geeks out there, how much storage have we used?

Re: Fireblades Downtime

Good question I will have to check up on that, this is about a setting up a shadow or mirror drive to protect us in case of failure. Currently we would have to roll back maybe 24 hours if we had a problem, this new system will just mean if we have a drive failure it's minimal downtime and business as usual.

Re: Fireblades Downtime

Wowser...

Sorry I forget a lot of the world doesn't have budgets to do what I am used to at work. All of our PC servers are 100% diskless we leverage our IBM sytem i5 dasd to handle our server storage space. Need another drive no problem just create it and link it on mini computer. And we run 6 drawers of disks all configured for device parity protection we can lose up to 16 drives as long as we dont drop more than 2 in any 1 set we just pop one out and slide one in.

Amazing I must assume you have physical server hardware in your locale?

Any more most sites use a hosting service....

The amount of traffic this site gets you have to be spending some big bucks on a lease line for your POP.

I am impressed if my above assumptions are correct.

Re: Fireblades Downtime

We use a dedicated server with a 3rd party hosting company and they look after the whole thing (for a price), your right about the traffic chewing up resources but it's a not a bad problem to have
