Show that to your g/f and let us know how hard you get slapped.
Funny thing is, the divorce rate wasn't as bad back then |

No way I would have survived in 1955 with a subservient wife...
I enjoy having an equal partner with which to enjoy life...
Edit:
Anyone that buys into that 1955 gibberish is mentally weak, and unfit for partnership anyway. Not an insult, but they should life their lives solo instead of trying to find a weaker partner to bolster their self esteem....

Both sexes had the "integrity" (your words) to be treated equally in 1955 just as they should be in 2055.
You have to be fishing with this....if so, kudos...

| Re: A woman knows her place. It is funny. One of the many problems w/ this is not the tasks that it suggests, but rather the fact that it is directed at the wife, and not "spouse that stays at home".
Furthermore, things like "his topics of conversation are more important than yours" and "you have no right to question him". Complete crap. Suggesting one partner is "less" than the other.
I think that any partner that comes home to a frazzled stressed out mess is bound to get annoyed. So some of the suggestions aren't that bad. Just that they are directed to the "wife" and not the "partner".
IMO anyway.

| Re: A woman knows her place. Wow... that's downright comical, but... I'm in no position to judge what life was like back then. I have no doubt whatsoever that 49 years from now (if we make it that long yadda yadda), our own, current, "enlightened" standards will be seen as laughable |

| Re: A woman knows her place. My dad had a promotional ad book from Memphis '52. On the cover was a picture from a parade. The center of the picture was a 12x12 phalanx of white, brunette women in white dresses with the same white hats. Something very creepy, very Brave New World about it to me. Manufactured people living manufactured lives in the modern, industrial world, where everyone on the assembly line of life had a job to perform, and their work had to be in accordance with spec and inside of manufacturing tolerances.
Scary.
The '50s must have been tough to live in. California culture (of which all that I know is from 'American Graffiti') was simmering and the Beats were boiling in NYC and the rest of the East. The middle of the country was still working for Henry Ford, in mind and body.
Anybody care to share what they know? |
