The US keeps shooting down the satellites with so called "friendly fire"?

Is the system being held up by a lack of money, technology, determination or a combination...

Re: Galileo: What's the hold up?

I believe the US system now has 100% coverage so the motivation is a bit lower now. Also unless you plan military uses there is no downside to jacking into the US system.

Personally I would see more advantage to adding WAAS stations

Except it's a stated goal of the EU to develop their own independent system. It's a part of their 2010 economic superiority plan....

Re: Galileo: What's the hold up?

I read an unquoted blurb today that stated the first Galileo GNSS satellite was to go up in November 2005, but can't seem to confirm it....

Anyone....?

LMAO at CBRVFR's "Tele" comment....

For some reason, I am extremely interested in following the milestone events that will eventually supplant the US as the world's major superpower...

The EU is an attempt at leveraging all of Europe's might against massive trading partners like the US, but these are still distinct nations with their own agendas and biases going back a thousand years. I finally finished Churchill's History of the English Speaking People's and couldn't help but draw some parallels to the development of the EU and the affirmation of a US united under a central government in the Civil War.

Re: Galileo: What's the hold up?

Question to me is, who will take us out of the running first....China or the EU...and will we have a short stint at 2nd, or head straight to 3rd...

Re: Galileo: What's the hold up?

For me, China is definitely the next superpower. I'm not sure Europe will get to being a nation rather than a cultural and economic bloc. So I presume at some point after China goes democratic, it becomes no1 with the US at no2!

Long time to wait, though, Bake. How long ya got?

That's the rub isn't it...

I've thought about cryogenically freezing my head so that I can eventually see how it all works out...
