| Look what I just found in my front yard! Looks like a healthy specimen. I've had many box turtles since I grew up in Maryland. However, they seem to be harder to find here in Jersey. This guy was practically walking across my driveway when I first spotted him. I'm going to see if he'll eat some mealworms, many box turtles love them. |

| Re: Look what I just found in my front yard! That's a beauty! The easterns are definitely the prettiest of the box turtles IMO. And yes, they are getting scarcer - they don't exactly cater to development. |

| Re: Look what I just found in my front yard! Awesome! I haven't seen any in the past few years. Not since I almost tripped over one when I was jogging on a trail in the woods! |

| Re: Look what I just found in my front yard! Cool pattern on the tiles! We have snappers ranging in size from a few ounces to 10 or 11 pounds that live in our pond (one of the reasons I don't swim in it anymore). During hatching season they all trek across the driveway and we have to put up a "Turtle Crossing" sign so the UPS and FedEx trucks don't take them out (so far they have flattened 3 in the past few years). |

| Re: Look what I just found in my front yard! When he saw that I was moving towards him he tried to "sprint" away. Some good speed for a turtle...probably faster than me at the track
Showed him to my 1 year old daughter and she giggled at him.
Of course, she wanted to touch him

Ask sheep if he'd like to adopt it as a pet. He loves the little fellers. |

| Re: Look what I just found in my front yard! Upon closer inspection I think he is a she. Shortish tail and convex plastron are dead giveaways. She's very inquisitive, brave, and outgoing. I'll put good money on her eating well! |

| Re: Look what I just found in my front yard! After doing some quick research on the internet I decided to try to feed her some wet cat food. She devoured it. That turtle was on a mission!
My wife brought some meal worms home but on her way she stopped at Walmart and she left the worms in the car. Well, they're all dead now, I assume from the heat in the car. So the turtle is not interested in them since they don't move and apparently don't smell as good as cat food.
We'll see how she does... |

| Re: Look what I just found in my front yard! Hey Dave, feed it low fat dog food instead of cat food. But give it as many insects as possible too. A good friend of mine is a vet who specializes in reptiles and says cat food is a no-no. Females have a short, rather thin tail and a "flat" plastron. Males have a fatter tail and the convex plastron (for making copulation (turtle phucking) easier. |

I'll change to low fat and feed her many other things as well. Insects, strawberries, bananas, etc. |

| Re: Look what I just found in my front yard! why not just bring her out to the local pond (or where she is most likely from). her husband is probably looking for her, he misses the turtle phocking. |
