| Had a real scarry evening In 2004 just after Christmas my daughters dog (Choodle=Poodle+chiuawa) "Dominick" got run over and died.
Rascal is my daughter's new dog.
Tonight my son and I were throwing a baseball and "Rascal" run out and got hit by a wild throw from my son. Rascal instantly wend down and was not moving, I picked him up and went into the garage and he was not breathing and his heart rate was irregular. I tried to keep him alert and blew into his face several times and he started to blink his eyes a little. He stopped responding to everything and his back legs came up and he acted like he was posturing to die, my wifey called a vet and got him to come to the office quickly. We got rascal loaded up and drove into town ( i did break the speed limit) and got him to the office. In the office he started to move a little more but would not move his extremeties at all even when touched or moved by me ( he does not like you messing with his feet), on the tablethe Dr. give him something for pain and by this time his breathing and heart rate was getting back to normal. Rascal started to do alot better as time went on and the DR. wanted to keep him overnght
just to make sure everything was OK. But he was standing and walking fairly good in the kennel whan we left the office. I think he will be ok, but I will know more in the morning. |

edit: I can symapthize...I backed over our 11 yr. old lab last summer in my wife's car. She survived and is fine today...just needed 20 some stitches.

| Re: Had a real scarry evening Cool dog glad he is OK. Dow the dog is getting old and the day he passes will be a hugely bad one for me, lots harder for a kid.

| Re: Had a real scarry evening Thanks for the well wishes, I feel pretty confident that he will be OK. Cameron felt soo bad about the accident, he was appologising alot. I told him it was an accident, and not to worry about it. Jordan (My Daughter) is Ok with it as well. The Dr. said he might call in the Am and release him but not real sure what time, since the kids are out of school it will be a relief to everybody. I do not know what I will do when my dog passes, they might have to bury me with her. |

| Re: Had a real scarry evening We wish Rascal all the best. About 15 years ago, backing down our driveway when we lived in San Diego, I heard a horrible yelp from our Cocker Spaniel "Theolonious." I immediately jumped out of the car and he was limping around in obvious pain. I sat with him on the grass and calmed him down (I felt terrible), and within a matter of a couple of minutes he was running around, completely normal.
I hope Rascal has a speedy healing too! |

| Re: Had a real scarry evening I'd written this out last night, but my internet service took a momentary dump just as I went to post it:
Hammer, I hope he makes a full recovery. And all the best to your son, as I'm sure the feelings of guilt are coming on strong.
I, too, can somewhat empathize. Back in February, my wife was rushing off to work, and forgot to let our aged (13) Pekingese back in the house. At some point during the day, he fell into the pool and drowned. To make matters worse, it was our son who found the dog in the pool when he got home from school. Needless to say, that was a rough ordeal. |

| Re: Had a real scarry evening Rascal has mad a full recovery. He is still a little weak, as would anyone being hit with something 1/2 the weight as us traveling 60mph. I picked him up this morning at the Vets office, they did not want to let him go as he is soo sweet they said. I brought him home and as soon as my Daughter seen him she instantly went into tears. I told her to not get him roughed up today and to watch him real close and make sure he ate good, ham sandwich sounded good to him.
Thanks again to all the well wishes, they helped. |

| Re: Had a real scarry evening My wife and I have no kids. Mostly because of our jobs and schedule. Just wouldnt be possible with us both working nights, being on call for court, etc. We would love to have kids someday but for now we have a dog. The wife loves that dog more than anything, probably more than me. I would have to find another dog that looked the exact same if Pnut ever kicked the bucket. She would be crushed. Everytime we go out of town she puts the dog in a fancy "theme" kennel with a TV and all the goodies. Last time Pnut spent the weekend in Las Vegas. But its whatever makes my wife happy. Thats the most important thing.
Hope your dog recovers fully Hammer. I dont want to imagine the stress around my house if something like that happened.

| Re: Had a real scarry evening good to hear the little guy is gonna be alright.
I don't have a dog but the few I've been around recently have been a ton of fun. my little cousin got a golden lab for christmas 2 years ago and that little guy was a ton of fun. And a friend for a golden lab for this past christmas and that guy is ball to play with too. I was messing with him yesterday, he's gettin big. |

| Re: Had a real scarry evening Rascal done Ok today at the house, he seems fine but is sleeping alot and not really eating well but I take it that is expected though. At lunch today I came home and got him to eat a 1/2 piece of ham but that was about it for his food intake today. We will see how he progresses tomorrow.
