05 Chevy Truck stereo's

ok, my friend has an 05 silverado 2500HD
I have an 05 silverado 1500
both have XM, Bose systems. he put an aftermarket stereo in his and I want to change my single CD to his 6 disc in dash changer. does anyone know if it will work or are the vin #'s etched into the head units brain? I searched other forums and no one can answer this question. the local dealer is lame and wants $50 to check it out so I'm hoping someone can help from here.

I think is should work. You might need the programing number for the radio if it has a security system in it.

yeah, unless there is a security system it should be plug and play. worse case scenario you will need the code to reset the stereo when you install it. you should be able to get that from any stereo shop. call sound of stereo in santa maria. they are pretty good guys and should be able to let you know over the phone.
