| Stop Smoking Thread How about a support thread for those who are trying to get off the nicotine.
I smoked for over 25 years and switch to smokeless tobacco a few years ago.
I put it down about a week ago. It really hasn't been that bad, I guess when you're sick and tired of it and tired of throwing money down the drain it's not as hard to do.
Good luck to anyone trying this and maybe this can work as a support forum. |

| Re: Stop Smoking Thread Sorry, just had to say it.
I smoked from a very young age... Back then everyone did it and it was the done thing to do. By the time you knew it you had become addicted.
I gave up in 2003 due to seeing my dad in hospital. I had wanted to but never had the will power. Since then I have had cravings, and yes I have tried it but it never seems right anymore.
Imagine what all of the money you save could be put towards *starts dreaming*
Good luck and keep up the Good Work!

My wife uses gum (with nicotine inside) as she gave up too.

I gotta get my wife to quit cause it sure is tempting when her smokes are setting on my tool box in the garage(that's where she smokes).
Just gotta keep telling myself that it's no good for me. |

| Re: Stop Smoking Thread When you feel like smoking, get a jar a drop like some money in it.
Doesn't have to be much (e.g. a dollar every time) but over time you will learn to control yourself as the more you smoke, the more money you are throwing away at your death.

Just gotta keep telling myself that it's no good for me. | If your wife's smoking it's going to be hard to stop without assistance. I was a 40 to 60 a day man, so for me I needed the nicotine gum. I stopped for a year and three months the first time (on the gum) but got to Thailand and just stupidly started again. This time I'm approaching the year and a half mark again and I'm using the gum. I still reckon that's got to be better than pumping nearly three years worth of sigs into my lungs. Good luck with Dbierman |

| Re: Stop Smoking Thread Yeah, becoming a permanent non-smoker is difficult when the better half is still smoking. Thankfully, my wife finally quit with assistance from Zyban (bupropion), and I joined her in the quitting and the treatment. That was about 7 years ago so I see no reason for either of us to start up again.
I did have earlier successes for as long as 4 years. The only way I was able to do it was to also give up caffeine and all forms of alcohol for at least a year.
Good luck and best wishes to anybody beginning their journey to better health. |

I bought a campervan a few years back, and the previous owners used to smoke like troopers (and also inside the van)...
Me armed with a brush and a bottle of flash degreaser I set of spraying the roof lining... The amount of muck/nicotine etc coming off was sickening.
Smoke annoys me a bit now, maybe because I used to smoke

| Re: Stop Smoking Thread I've slipped a time or two when I was knocking back a cold one. It's too easy to light one up when you've had a few and they're right there on the table. I'm glad to say though that I haven't even thought about buying any tobacco. Maybe the wife will quit soon. Her mother in going to be in town in a few weeks and she claims she'll quit after she returns home. Her mother smokes like a chimney and Marcy knows she'll fall to the temptation. |

A couple of friends of mine smoke like troopers, so when we're at the bar knocking 'em back that's when I realy want one. But, when I have slipped up, I've found I really don't like it now. The temptation's still there though.
What's annoying for me is that my bro and dad (both were heavy smokers) were able to stop on a sixpence. Never had another since nor wanted one. My bro stopped two and a half years ago and the old man stopped more than ten years ago. |

| Re: Stop Smoking Thread It all comes down to will power... and if you have set your mind to actually stopping for a valid reason, not because someone else says you should.
Do something to take your mind off things, eat fruit (if you dont, start eating it), do exercise (as you may gain a few pounds when you quit (your taste buds "come back"))
Good luck to everyone trying...

So if your visor's up and you come up behind one who's smoking, you end up getting hot ash in the eye
Btw, it's only ever the Thai men that do smoke on the bike! |
