Tivo transferability

Looking to get a tivo cuz charters DVRs are total junk. They have used ones on ebay with lifetime subscriptions. are those transferable to a new owner?

does anyone like their tivos? i would hate to drop 3 bills and hate the damn thing.

Re: Tivo transferability

Maybe I'm partial because I work in the industry.......... but Tivo's are for kids. But if your provider's DVR is junk then you really have no other choice (Im not sure if Panasonic still does Replay TV which was great and free to use with the cost of a unit) If you get Tivo one go for a gen 3 or higher that uses 2 cablecards (If your provider has cablecard service) this way you get HD recording capability, can watch 1 thing while recording another, and supposedly they're less prone to problems. Also with the Feb 19th 2009 switch to digital a Tivo hooked up to a standard cable jack won't do a damned thing. You'd have to tune through the Cable box, then through the Tivo. That's a pain in the ass if you ask me. One last thing is that I wouldn't get a used DVR personally......the hard drives might be on the way out and if the service is transferable who knows how long the unit will last.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

ReplayTV is now owned by DirecTV.

Re: Tivo transferability

Too bad, it had a much better menu system than Tivo. Guess better marketing prevailed.

Re: Tivo transferability

yep, I thought ReplayTV was much better; even a few nice hacks for it too.
