| Who does Kerry resonate with? I have quite a few liberal friends and family, but in discussion few of them seem to connect with Kerry's message. In fact many of them echo that while they would like to support him, they are instead put off by his negativism and invective speech.
I am just curious if Kerry resonates with any of the Dems on this board, and in particular, on what issues?
Disclaimer: This post is not a troll, I am seriously interested in finding out what demographic connects with Kerry, and specifically what part(s) of his platform.

| Re: Who does Kerry resonate with? What does he bring to the party? The answer is obvious. The guy has absolutely nothing going for him, except:
1. He's not Bush.
2. A timely but extremely premature poll in the midst of a frontloaded, establishment oriented primary season indicated he might win.
3. He's got money of his own ( well, OK, it's his wife's...) to campaign with, and thus dominated the late stages of the primaries.
Approximately 46% of the likely voters would vote for Saddam Hussein before they'd vote for Bush/Cheney. They will vote for any democrat with a pulse. They're angry and motivated. That's why Kerry keeps proclaiming himself "a fighter."
A nearly equal number is committed to voting for the president. Given that, this election will likely be a replay of 2000.
The difference will be the independents, and whether they're going to vote for either candidate in any concentration, or if they'll split according to the prevailing polar-opposite mood of the country. And whether Nader's candidacy will make a difference if / when Kerry steps in it. |

Where do you get this number?
I will agree that Bush does polarize people. He's the most polarizing Pres in a very longtime. There was an article about it recently. |

It said that he was in pretty good company as far as polarizing people - much like Ronald Reagan did when he called the Soviet Union the "Evil Empire" - and many of the pacifists on the left cried that he was offending the rest of the world.
W's predecessor was often criticized (rightfully, in my judgement) for making decisions based on polling and popularity, rather than a specific set of fixed principles for governance. |

GALLUP NEWS SERVICE
PRINCETON, NJ -- The latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey of American voters finds Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry leading President George W. Bush among registered voters 50% to 45%, and among likely voters by 52% to 44%.
When Ralph Nader is included in the hypothetical matchup, the consumer activist takes votes away from Kerry, but not from Bush. Among registered voters, Kerry receives 47% support, Bush 45%, and Nader 5% -- a three-point decline for Kerry with Nader in the race, but no decline for Bush. gallup news
The article goes on and seems to favor Kerry's chances among probable voters, but that's to be expected at this point.
LTL, I didn't say Bush was the "divider, not the uniter", as they say. In my opinion, ( so I don't have to look THIS statement up...) The division is longstanding and is manipulated by all sides for their own purposes. The democrats, republicans, the single issue people,( abortion, education, the environmentalists, the social conservatives, gays, blah blah...) all couch their arguments in an "us against them" tone that is less and less concerned with convincing neutral people of their position. It's purpose is more divisive and
more concerned with making sure there is no fence to sit on. That's the most discouraging aspect of political life in the US now.
Harris polls has a report out that pegs the self described conservatives at about 33%, the liberals at 18%, and the rest view themselves as moderates or don't say. These percentages seem to have held within a few points since the 70's. Therefore, politicians have to get their base motivated to vote, and given the lower percentage of liberals, that's why the angry rhetoric has become sort of institutionalized since the Florida Fiasco. Pqrty leaders have made sure that people have remained pissed off, so it's not just W. |

| Re: Who does Kerry resonate with? No replies supporting Kerry's candidacy??!?!
This further supports my assertion Kerry doesn't really resonate with anyone.
I contend that he is the leading candidate due to the influence of the liberal media in this country. They chose him for his stage presence and physical attributes. They also knew that Dean didn't have a chance, so they torpedoed him in the national news to put Kerry on the podium.
Kerry was an "also-ran" up until the point where the media lefties got nervous about the "electability" issues of the other candidates. Faced with the frightening prospect of the people choosing a bad horse, they took matters into their own hands....put the spotlight on Kerry's botoxed brow, and the rest is history.....

| Re: Who does Kerry resonate with? A good friend of mine is a pretty liberal attorney in Massachussetts. She is originally from Concord now lives in Boston. He was her rep for a time when she lived in Concord and her senator now that she lives in Boston. She was READY to be a supporter. She saw him in person and she came away 'underwhelmed'.
As noted, he is just some guy, and we'll see in November if he happens to be in the right place at the right time. |

Since 9/11 and the radical changes we have made to secure our nation we have not been attacked since. If Kerry is elected his Police Action policy will ensure another attack. As I have stated before Bush is not my dream president but he has done an outstanding job of protecting our collective asses.
If the pussy countries around the world don't want to confront these animals we'll do it for them like we always have. But while the USA is ridding the world of these dirtbags and anyone who supports them do me a favor and |
