I think the Muslim religion teaches that the more people you kill/take to the other world with you, the more servants you'll have in heaven. So they may just be cheering each other on |

It was a ficticous(sp?) story of America being overtaken by the Russians and how a small minority of young American rebels would cause caos and celebrate each small but brutal victories against the invading Russians. Not saying this is the same thing, but, they (Iraq) believe they are fighting or supporting those who are fighting against the 'Evil' Westeners, and celebrate their small victories.
Same thing in Pakistan(?) during 911, and earlier in Somalia. (sorry, spelling mistakes everywhere)
It's all very sad. |

"When the Sacred Months are over, kill those who ascribe partners to God wheresoever ye find them; seize them, encompass them, and ambush them; then if they repent and observe prayer and pay the alms, let them go their way (Koran 4:5).
"Fight against those who believe not in God nor in the Last Day, who... refuse allegiance to the True Faith from among those who have received the Book, until they humbly pay tribute out of hand." (Koran 9:29)
It is believed that the last two verses are referring to Christians and Jews.
There are, of course, another hundred examples. It's important to read the context surrounding each verse to understand what's being taught, but much of the Koran is pretty clear on what Muslims should be doing to non-Muslims.
Remember, the Koran was written 600 years after the death of Christ, and it directly tries to contradict what the Bible teaches about Christ as the Son of God:
"...Allah forbid that He should have a son." (Koran 4:171)
"It is not meant for God to have children." (Koran 19.92)
"He begets not, nor he is begotten, and there is none like unto him." (Koran 112:3)
"No son did Allah beget, nor is there any god along with him. [if so] then behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have lorded it over others! Glory to Allah! from things they attribute to Him." (Koran 23:91)
"And they say, 'The Most Gracious Has betaken a son!' Indeed you have put forth a thing most monstrous! At it the skies are bout to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin: That they attributed a son to the Most Gracious. For it is not consonant with the majesty of the Most Gracious that He should beget a son. Not one of the beings in the heavens and the earth but must come to the Most Gracious as a servant. He does take an account of them [all], and numbered them exactly, and everyone of them will come to him singly on the day of judgment." (Koran 19:88)
"And (they) impute falsely, without knowledge, sons and daughters unto Him...How can He have a child when there is no consort for him...?" (Koran 6:101-103)
So, Muslims believe that Jews and Christians are commiting the ultimate blasphemy by believing in a messiah from God that is (or will be to a Jew) His one and only Son. |

Yes it is (very sad). And it is why, IMO, we need to very seriously look at the policy on what our military is for. They should be controlled by the damn state department how they are currently used. We are making the world hate us, for no good reason.

Seriously, if they want to hate us so bad then give them a F@*#@!&ing reason! You don't see us dropping a 10,000 lbs bomb on their front porch...this hsit makes me so mad that I cannot stand it. We need to get the heck out of there, and let them all kill each other if that's what they want to do. I understand that it's not that cut and dry, and I know that the threat against the US is real most of the time. But this stuff reminds me of the "Blackhawk down" movie...when they dragged people into the street from burning choppers, and beat them with shovels and pick axes....WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING THERE IF WE ARE HATED SO MUCH! Yeah, they might hate us because they are taught that, but you don't see us taking the same approach to race wars here in the US. That's hate taught as well...I just cannot stand it.
This world can be a great place, as long as you don't look up the sleeves of the world, and see the evils that are so harsh, and so gloom. Is everyone going to get along, and love each other...NO, never...it's in our own nature to hate, and that’s the saddest thing in the world. I hate to think about things like this, because I am a pretty innocent guy from VT that likes to think of us all as equal...but that’s a minority group of thought on its own.
There is always going to be the dream of us all wanting peace, and all of us wanting to get along, but man, its hard when I see pictures like this. And gods help our men and women that are over there witnessing this first hand. I am proud of our soldiers, without them we are nothing. I just wish we could stop being the only police dept that the planet earth has. Going into these areas where we have to tip toe, around to not hurt anyone, while they stab us in the back is getting so old.
Think. |

| Re: CNN homepage *** DON'T READ IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED***
I spent the weekend with some guys in Fayetteville, NC that just returned from a year in Iraq in the 82nd airborne. Boy did I hear some stories, lots of it really really messed up.
Don't wanna go into detail, but lets just say that lots of those "cheering mofos" (like the one in the pic), are getting the **** kicked out of them on a daily basis... And I mean THE **** KICKED OUT OF THEM! Our guys can't kill them, but I got told lots of stories centered around them beating the **** out of some camel jockey that imitated a "thumb across the throat" motion as a soldier walked by (behind his back, and he smiled and waved to his face), but my friend saw it and beat that ****er down... He crammed his rifle so far down his throat the ****er was coughing up his breakfast and blood... My friend told me they worked this guy over good for about 10 hours, then dumped his ass back on the street where they found him. He said they'd get motions like that all the time, sometimes accompanied be small arms fire and then they'd run away from us, sometimes right behind their backs...
A lot of the locals there think **** like that is funny. And they pay for it too... To within an inch of their life... |

As for the cheering... I dunno man. This war is messed up. I've heard cheers for the coalition when they scored big hits and I've read/heard many comments about how we should just obliterate Iraq and be done with it; I imagine that they see the western world cheering against them. No matter how you slice it, encouraging or cheering the killing of civilians just ain't right - our side OR their side. I suspect our glib comments and slanted media that reach Iraqi people worldwide has increased their anger rather than convince them that they are being helped. Know what I mean? |

I strongly doubt our soldiers are jumping around cheering over the enemy's dead bodies. |

I strongly doubt our soldiers are jumping around cheering over the enemy's dead bodies. | They don't at all... They are walking targets there and everyone is a possible militant. Someone taunts like that, tomorrow, they have TNT strapped to their chest and they blow everyone up as they walk by.
Once, in a convoy of 4 hummers, a car pulls in front of them, two suicide bombers jump out, bam, hummer blew up, the car blew up, several 82nd guys are down, few injured and the 3 hummers behind them are pinned down. They get small arms fire from all angles, 2 more guys are down... The day before, the driver of said car was yelling and screaming at them from the road side making gestures signaling doom to our guys. My friend said after that, they beat anyone down and searched them if they were shifty in the smallest way.
Nuh uh, they don't take it lightly at all... |

I strongly doubt our soldiers are jumping around cheering over the enemy's dead bodies. | Ummm, I beg to differ with you there ND4. I have some friends that were in the gulf war that were checking out the charred remains of hundreds of fallen Iraqis. They were there with digital cameras and camcorders going from body to body, basically young soldiers going "no way, check this dude out"! Soldiers are soldiers and common decency flies out the window during war. Sure there are those who respect the dead/fallen, but I bet more of who don't and don't care. You better have a phuck em all attitude if your intention is to possibly kill them.
Like Nomad said, it's not right on either side. Then again, were sitting in a nice comfy office building waiting for our next afternoon coffee break. |

I strongly doubt our soldiers are jumping around cheering over the enemy's dead bodies. | You are right. I wouldn't sit around and let someone threaten me like that. If I had my C7, I'd probably shove it down their throats too. In fact, I would probably love to pull the trigger. Anytime you taunt a soldier in the field, you are likely to get blown away; It's a necessary measure in areas of war.
What I don't think is appropriate is for the soldier to wear their actions as a medal of honour. Beating down a civilian for doing something stupid is not something of which to be proud. Nor is it something that anyone should applaud; we should be offended that this type of action is a necessary measure of prevention. Do you understand my perspective? For example, when a LEO shoots a thief, he did his job - he shouldn't go back to the bar and tell all his buddies how he popped a capped in that guys ass for fun.
BTW, the cheering is being done on our civilian side - take a look through the forum, on the Internet and at some of your local bars. You'll find quite a few people that make comments about blowing them up and "congratulating" the US soldiers for bombing the crap out of Iraq. I didn't mean to imply that the US Soldiers are cheering. I'm sure they are quite serious while doing their jobs. |
