Okay, so it's backwards on all right sleeves of uniforms, but that doesn't answer my question. Is it the opposite on the left sleeve? And if so, why not the reverse?

I knew there was proper etiquette about the orientation of flags, but I always thought that it was that the stars should be on the right when looking directly at it.

Thats only when hanging a flag on a wall like a banner. The flag is oriented to show the soldier is moving FORWARD. Not in retreat.

Yep, think of a battle flag on a pole marching FORWARD! The blue field always faces forward, no matter the side it's viewed from.
