Guy legally defends himself, and they fire him. Pizza Hut feels they are above the Constitution, so I will vote with my dollars.
I also left them feedback here:
Feel free to do the same. |

He says he fired 15 times in about eight seconds. An autopsy revealed Brown-Dancler was hit at least 10 times. |

(1) He knew the company policy, and knowingly broke it, which is grounds for termination.
(2) If you boycotted every company with a similar policy, you'd be homeless, naked, and starving. |

You guys are a complete joke for firing that delivery guy in Indianapolis for defending himself. I delivered pizza's for over 5 years and know how uncomfortable it is to be out there with a wad of cash. Why don't one of you wise executives go out on those streets and see how you like being attacked.
I'll be glad to spend my pizza money elsewhere!!

| Re: No more Pizza Hut for me. Whitham wrote to the company: "I don't spend my money with businesses that openly discriminate against people such as myself who understand that the police have no affirmative duty to protect any particular citizen and that no company is worth dying for – particularly yours."
What an excellent statement.
Pete has a valid point, but I would have liked to see Pizza Hut make an exception in this case, given that one of their drivers defended himself from an armed robber. Would they rather have seen "Delivery driver killed during robbery" in the paper? As it is, I hope they consider revising their rules, and I'm sure there will be some boycotting going on until they do.
BTW, you can use this story as a perfect litmus-test of the media. Given that the majority of it is anti-gun, don't be surprised to see little or no coverage... |

Regardless, as much as I'd like to pop a cap in everythieve's ass, if I were the pizza guy, I would have handed over the money or pizza... like ****, it's not like it's HIS money nor HIS pizza... *shrug* At first that might sound like a sissy thing to do but if someone's got a gun pointed at you, I'd evaluate the risk vs. reward and come up with, "Here, you can even take the keys to this shitty Chevette. I'll even split through in an extra topping for free." Live to fight another day... hell... pop a cap as the guy took two hands to hold the large pizza... *ahhh* the tables have turned. *shrug* |

What worries me now is that all pizza deliverers will now pack heat just in case it happens to them. The guy was lucky that the criminal didn't have one in the chamber. |

He could have beat the guy down with his Pizza-warming-bag and then run him over with his Chevette. |

EDIT: Have a read of an article written by John Lott...
<snip>
In all, 72 stories described how the attacker was stopped, without mentioning that the heroes had guns. Yet 68 stories provided precise details on the gun used by the attacker: The New York Times made sure to point out it was "a .380 semiautomatic handgun"; the Los Angeles Times noted it was "a .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol."
A week and a half after the assault, I appeared on a radio program in Los Angeles along with Tracy Bridges, one of the Appalachian Law School heroes. Tracy related how "shocked" he had been by the news coverage. Though he had carefully described to over 50 reporters what had happened, explaining how he had to point his gun at the attacker and yell at him to drop his gun, the media had consistently reported that the incident had ended by the students "tackling" the killer. When I relayed what the Washington Post had reported, Tracy quickly mentioned that he had spent a considerable amount of time talking face-to-face with reporter Maria Glod of the Post. He seemed stunned that this conversation had not resulted in a more accurate rendition of what had occurred.
</snip>
Read the entire thing - it's a good read. The point is, like it or not and acknowledge it or not, our media has an inherent bias against guns.

Unarmed delivery drivers must be tempting targets to robbers. |

Most importantly think about this from the bad guys perspective. "Hmmm, I can rob this guy...get a free pizza, some cash AND a gun". There are some LEO's on this board so lets ask them. How easy would it be to disarm and rob a guy with a pizza box and fumbling with a fanny pack for change? Too easy and now there's another gun on the streets in the hands of a criminal.

Pizza guy and no gun = quite possibly dead pizza guy
People have been killed for a lot less than a pizza. |

People have been killed for a lot less than a pizza. | Thank you. I hear the "It's just going to be taken away from you" all the time. But if that really is the case, how come police officers aren't routinely robbed of their guns and gear? I think the stereotype of a potential concealed gun-carrier is that of a dumb redneck or a bumbling, incompetent idiot.
Most of the time, robbers are looking for an easy target, and if they learn that delivery drivers are more likely to be packing heat, they might look elsewhere. Criminals in general are less likely to do whatever it is they're going to do if they think that their victim might be armed. |

Pizza guys and guns = bad | Umm, unless you stick a gun in his face, isn't he going to drop the pizza and put up a fight if you try to rob him? How easy would it be to stick a gun in the face of a police officer with his or her hands full? Everyone knows they have guns, yet they're not getting robbed that often.
You live in Florida -- a shall-issue state. It's very likely that delivery drivers with permits to carry have been carrying for awhile now and you haven't noticed... You should take a day or two and do the research for yourself. I think you might be surprised to find out how responsible and successful conceal and carry has been in your state.
