McCain

I really like this guy and I was a fan of him over Bush too. Maybe in 2008?

Re: McCain

Running with what party? The republican establishment trashed him last time, from the pulpit no less, and would stop at nothing to prevent anyone but an orthodox 'true conservative believer' from getting the nomination.

The democrat orthodox 'true socialist believers' were ready to commit mass suicide when Kerry had lunch with him.. All of these ideology-over-brains jerks need to be put back in the box.

I wrote him an email recently BEGGING him to start a new party for the huge number of Americans left out of the process. It didn't see to move him.

But I'm keeping my lawn signs just in case.

A friend and I were discussing this over lunch yesterday. It does truly seem like we are ripe for a third party. I think there's tons of people disillusioned with who we currently have.

Re: McCain

If the Libertarians were ever to get their act together and get their message out, they might draw some serious consideration. With the exception of a few social issues (i.e. abortion), I think they are pretty much spot on.

Re: McCain

ER, I think the problem with the Libertarians as a viable national third party is that they are a bit cult-like for the mainstream, and while they have a particular ideology, it's hard to pin them down. It gets murky when you talk about crime and punishment.

Frankly, a third party that wants to get votes has to be unafraid to steal the best ideas of all parties, while ridiculing their vagaries.. How's this as a principle: Your friends aren't always right, and your foes aren't always wrong.. And how about accepting a RANGE of ideals rather than forcing candidates to pander to the richest and most radical constituencies?

The campaign laws have to be overturned so that they cease to favor the 2 party system to such a great degree, as well as those pesky lobbys.
( This is a little like saying, let's move some mountains to Michigan this weekend.. it may happen, but it's going to take a major upheaval)

Most people don't understand some of their views -- especially that of the drug-war. I believe it all surrounds the concept of limited Government and personal responsibility, though, which is why I support them.

Once upon a time I believe both parties had much in common with the Libertarians. I don't know when it was that someone decided that it was the Government's responsibility to have so much control over our lives, but now we have a massive, bloated porker that continues to grow every year. The Libertarians seem so far out of whack because they seek to dismantle that to which people have grown so accustomed -- Government control.

Re: McCain

I also think the Libertarian party is immature...it's never really developed sophistication because let's face it, the really high quality serious politician is not going to spend their time messing around with them as the party has no chance of getting someone elected.

Re: McCain

He went down several notches in my book when he teamed up with Feingold to push Campaign Finance Reform. Just didn't make any sense for a conservative to push this and then team up with an ultra liberal to get it passed. It essentially silences not for profit organizations 30/60 days before the election. Seems fair until you realize ABC,CBS and NBC get to taint their partisan message up until the polls close(don't forget how they affected the last presidential election).
Everyone loves the 1st Amendment until someone says or writes something that offends them. The liberals would love to silence Hannity and Rush and keep NPR if it were possible. The 1st amendment is a double edged sword. I personally don't mind the side that hurts...that is what makes the USA great.

Hats off to McCain and his service to our nation. He has earned a place of respect in my heart if not my vote.

Re: McCain

The Libertarians suffer from the same malady as the other parties...only the voice of the extremists are widely publicized, giving the impression that they speak for the entire party......
