Unless I'm mistaken it's Congress that decides what money goes to what and how much. Or does the Constitution still count?
Section. 8.
Clause 1: The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
Besides, there have been plenty of solid Republicans, including Rummy that called for base closures and a restructuring of the military. So I don't see the political significance of the numbers whether they are true or not...

| Re: Can you name this country? Yep, nothing wrong with downsizing the military (bases and people are the most expensive part of course). But there is something massively wrong with cutting back on advanced weapons systems.
However Zen, the Pres can certainly "influence" events dramatically so I think your implication that it was all due to Congress, and not Billybob is offbase.
If it was all Congress' fault, why are you so blameful of Bush in Iraq? It was Congress (including Kerry) that sent the boys right?

Anyone....Bueller...?

So what if it is true or false? |

I didn't mean to imply it was all the fault of Congress! Just pointing out that Congress has a major say in the direction of military concerns. Most people don't even know what the Constitution says or how this country is governed and it shows with stupid comments from stupid people who can't be bothered to see both sides of an issue.
As far as Iraq. I don't blame just Bush for that bullshit. I blame the intelligence or lack thereof. I blame the people who pressure or coerce Bush behind the scenes and I blame the media and Demos for going along with it without doing their homework.
I think I may have said this in another post somewhere, but in the first Gulf War maybe 10% of our bombs and missiles had "smart" technology. In the invasion of Iraq, 70% or better were "smart". Where the hell did all those new tech bombs and missiles come from? Uh....? |

| Re: Can you name this country? Actually, military base closures and re-alignments started in 1988.
It brings me great pain to say this, but it wasn't Clintons fault.
And we're due for another round in 2005. http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d03723.pdf |
