What media bias?

"What Media Bias?"

I love this...Dan Rather's story on the first day in office for Clinton and for Bush. Clinton pushed abortion, Bush pushed against abortion:

Dan Rather, CBS News, 1993: "Today, with the stroke of a pen, President Clinton delivered on his campaign promise (emphasis added) to cancel several anti-abortion regulations of the Reagan-Bush years."

Dan Rather, CBS News, 2001: "This was President Bush's first day at the office, and he did something to quickly please the right flank (emphasis added) in his party: He reinstituted an anti-abortion policy . . . "

Re: What media bias?

Yep, Rather's a well known tool. In fact, he is required contractually to slam republicans a certain number of times every week. When he apparently forgot how often he should be doing that, he got a harsh reminder.,

Quote:
CBS News anchor Dan Rather, renowned for his unusual expressions and sayings, has led a colorful life. However, one bizarre event really takes the cake.
One night in October 1986, Rather was walking down a Manhattan street when he was punched from behind and thrown to the ground. His assailant kicked and beat him while repeating, "Kenneth, what is the frequency?"

But seriously, people WANT bias. They don't want to be challenged or confused by media opinions that are different than their own. Thus you get egotistical morons like Rather and O'Reilly, Rush and Moore.

All of whom suck. None of whom exercise intellectual integrity.

I'm surprised that Memo-Gate isn't getting more attention on this forum, or in the mass media. Beyond bias....it looks more and more like a direct cooperation between a political party and the oh-so pure world of "journalism" to fabricate a story with a political goal. Seems worthy of note, to me.

Thoughts/opinions?

Re: What media bias?

Me personally, I'm starting to sound like a broken record with my posts about media bias so I tried to shut up about it. To some people it's not a big deal but to me it's HUGE. When a media outlet the size of CBS uses their broadcast to try and influence the opinions of millions of people with misinformation, that's similar to giving me 30 minutes of air time to espouse my beliefs. The difference is they're trying to do it under the guise of a fair press.

Yep, sounds like a cooperative relationship to me... Totally fabricated and poorly done. Backfired in some faces I'd say...

Have to admit I busted out laughing when I heard about the proportional font and subscripts...talk about stupid.

I'm just confused by the silence...seem like a bigger deal to me than it is, I guess. Imagine if the elephant party were the one involved.

I thought this article in today's Times a good comment of the ROTW (rest of the world) view on the US presidential elections:

MediaResearch

They show weekly the Liberal bias in our mainstream media. I'd find it almost impossible not to see the bias after spending a couple of weeks there, unless you agree with the opinions being espoused by the accused.

Maybe those 90% would, but that still doesn't change the fact that CBS ran a bogus report with various accusations against Bush without correction or apology. To this day Rather has neither apologized or completely admitted that they were fake. You just can't divert away from that by wondering what people here would do if the roles were reversed. Some of the latest I've read links this mess to the Kerry campaign. I can't say whether or not that is true but the timing in response to his sagging poll-numbers following the damage SBV for Truth has done is suspicious. Add to this that Bill Burkett (accused source of documents) and Mary Mapes (producer) are active Kerry supporters and it can become more believable.

One area in which there is NO substantial, political debate is media bias. There are plenty of up and coming Internet sites with Conservative leanings but the major networks of ABC, CBS, NBC, and more recently CNN have been accused of Liberal bias for years.

Re: What media bias?

The whole marketing plan for Fox News was based upon the presumption that the majority if not all of the US mainstream television news services were left leaning. They speculated that there was an audience willing to hear right leaning news, and they were correct.

The overwhelming leftist bias in our TV news begat Fox News...

Is that the case, or do they seem "so extreme" because we have been baselined for years by the lefties....

Haven't watched him for awhile....but like all cable news, they are ratings driven, so their spin will reflect that eh?

This brings up an interesting related story...

Not sure if XM has it, but Sirius has a "Talk Left" and "Talk Right" stream. Both are completely un-listenable because of their extreme position imho. Is anyone out there able to listen to either of those channels?

Re: What media bias?

I'll sometimes watch FoxNews in the morning when I don't feel like watching ESPN's Sports Center. That's really the only time I watch any news on TV. The crew that is on (Fox) in the mornings is pretty boring, to be honest. They've spent a lot of time lately talking about Rather and CBS, of course, and I'm glad they are.

I used to enjoy the O'Reilly factor as well but it's been about a year or two since I last watched it on a regular basis -- for no other reason than a lack of time. When I did watch his show I enjoyed it quite a bit. Brit Hume is excellent as well.

Paul Greenberg

The sad thing about media bias is that it really works -- on those who want to hear that slant or are too uninformed to go searching for the whole story, that is. My grandmother will vote Democrat as long as she can vote. She gets all of her news from Dan Rather and believes that his word is unbreakable.
