I love it...
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,132190,00.html "George Bush made a choice today," the president's Democratic challenger said in remarks prepared for a Washington audience Monday. "He chose his powerful friends in the gun lobby over the police officers and the families he promised to protect." "Let me be very clear. I support the Second Amendment. I've been a hunter all my life," Kerry said. "But I don't think we need to make the job of terrorists any easier."
I heard him on a news sound-byte this morning. He was doing his best to link this to the war on terror, claiming that Bush is failing to fight it by allowing this ban to end. This is emotional politics at its best, and there are plenty of voters dumb enough to follow it.
Criminals (and terrorists for that matter) aren't registering their names at local gun shops in order to buy a so-called assault weapon. They're getting them illegally. All the legislation in the world isn't going to make one bit of a difference to them. It WILL make a difference to law-abiding home owners, sportsmen, hunters, and defenders of the 2nd Amendment, though.
Some of the Brady Bunchers might be silly enough to think this kind of stuff makes a difference, but the majority of them and ALL of the politicians in their pocket understand the real goal - the confiscation of all firearms in the US.
It's just sad that Kerry can stoop low enough to tie it in with the war on terror. But hey, he's getting his a$$ kicked in everything else and he knows it. There's nothing left on which he can stand so he has to be desparate. His Senate history hurts him, his Vietnam service hasn't earned any votes, and no one thinks he'll do any better as Commander in Chief...
