Same Headline News:

59 killed as insurgents target Iraqi police

Anyone else getting tired of reading the same headlines every day. Did anyone think that Iraq was going to be such a long term plan? God Bless our troops...but I think I might need to get used to the ideas of holy war, and the facts that fighting has gone on over there for thousands of years. Why did people think we could put a stop to that? Anyone else feel that we might have gone into something thinking that it might only be a Saddam removal...and not thinking the entirety of the war. I mean, I was made to think that everyone in Iraq HATED Saddam, and everything he stood for. Now it almost seems that many of the Iraqi people think that we are the vicious dictator.

Ignorantly, I didn't think it would last this long. It looks like we're going to be in there for a long long time. God bless the troops. Last night was the first time in my life I actually felt motivated to enlist.

I think a lot of people, myself included thought we would be there a long, long time.... It's far to early to make any judgement about how this thing is shaking out.

Personally, I didn't think this much progress would have been made by this time. I think our guys are way ahead of any reasonable timetable....

Re: Same Headline News:

I think I am getting sick of seeing all the people balling there eyes out over insurgents killing there loved ones. Also, it might be time for the people of Iraq (millitary or not) that would like to see the end of this, fight along side the allied forces.

Maybe I was in the minority of people thinking that this would be a shorter ordeal....I had a feeling it was going to be longer than the storm...but shorter then I see it being now.

Re: Same Headline News:

Remember that we lost thousands of troops in the many years after WWII in both Japan and Germany.
Yeah it sucks, but the majority of the people over there are happy Saddam's gone, and really hoping their country can progress with their government. There are a lot of outside influences over there helping with these terror attacks and trying to stop the progression of the Iraqi government.
It has been a VERY short time, and will likely take until at least spring of next year, but it is still only a fraction of what it took to rebuild and restore Japan and Germany.

Re: Same Headline News:

dispite their hatred of Saddam, they are taught from infancy to hate the US. They dont trust us and I can understand why. Even though we ousted Saddam, a lot of people there remember what happened after the Gulf War.

Like Baketech I see the time frame as reasonable. I would also venture to speculate the conflict will not end to our satisfaction. This is not our fault alone however. There is MUCH blame to go around...

Re: Same Headline News:

It is truly sickening to read of dozens of people killed, merely because they stood in line to try to get a job as a police officer.

It certainly does make one wonder where this is all headed. Is this merely the last-ditch effort of the insurgents to create problems to derail the coming elections, or can their evil ultimately be put down? Or does this become the neverending tit-for-tat of Israel vs. the Palestinian terrorists?

True that....but you won't hear much about it. Discussion about why we are really in Iraq doesn't support the leftist agenda of the US media....

Re: Same Headline News:

well,

if you figure the Iraqi army, we pretty much wiped them out in what, 2 months flat?

The rising of domestic terrorists and the influx of terrorists into the country from neighboring nations is what we are battling most now. How do you battle an enemy that looks like every other civilian on the street? How can you be on the offensive? You can't, you have to be reactionary... You have to wait until they identify themselves by lobbing bullets, grenades and or their own bomb strapped selves at you before you can identify them as the enemy.

The enemy right now looks just like every other civilian there, and thats the most difficult part about it.

Vietnam.

You know, I also feel we (in the USA) get half the story...I am sick of that. It seems that big brother needs to sugar coat things in such a way that make us think that "aint not thing...we got it...everything is under control"

We are probably getting more of the story than during any other conflict in history. Even so, it's doubtful we are getting even half, probably much less...
