I just called the CA Firearms division. You can buy them until the end of the year, and then they must be registered by 2006.

So figment, PM me what you know about them. I missed AR's, I won't miss a .50cal. Plus it's a nice to the CA government.

I sold mine because it was too much hassle to go out to the lease to shoot it. Plus, if it was dry, the HE loads (fun ones) could not be used. The RC51 was bought with the funds

This is a bad law. Most of what is known about 50bmg has come out of civilian programs. http://www.fcsa.org/

Well with all those incidents of terrorists snipers using the 50 cal and the gang bangers for that matter(how do they turn it sideways ansd shoot that baby I don't know) I can see why this is a good ban. Hopefully they will ban jets with fuel tanks over 5 gallons , too.

Thank goodness for freedom fighters like Boxer and Feinstein.

Barretts are made here in Murfreesboro. THey hae a good relation with my rangew that I go to, and they have an M82A1 on display as well as the new 6.8 SPC. I got to shoot the 6.8 the other day and The manager has cleared it with Chris Barrett for us to take it to my grandfather's farm to shoot it. When (not if) I get one, it will be a Barrett.

I'm very interested in the 6.8. I hear it's an accurate round with punch. The SF guys are using it and love it from what I've read. The Barrett M468 is high on the must have list.

Now dont get me wrong, im not some bleeding heart socialist, but I cant figure out why the hell you'd wanna own a 50 cal, or AR for that matter? I own a couplea 22's and a 410 shotty, and maybe 1 or two others ive forgotten about(they havent been out of the cabinet for 10 years, I think ive still got the 9mm luger and a semi-auto 22) but cant see why anyone would want anymore than that. I guess I dont understand the american obsession with owning big guns

And let me reiterate, im not having a go at you guys, rather asking for some clarification.

Why do you NEED a bike that can break every limit in 1st gear? Shouldnt you just ride a 50cc mophead? Thats all you NEED... the .50BMG has a 3000m effective range. Its a longrange thing. Lots of skill. More than a .22...Like the difference between a litre bike and a pass-through mophead...

Having just a .22 would almost defeat the purpose of the 2nd Amendment. The false notion that the 2nd is to protect hunters is just that...false. The 2nd was put in place to protect the noble experiment of a government by the people and for the people. This power was even hinted at in the Declaration of Independence(quote below) and of course confirmed in our bill of rights. How would the citizens of this nation abolish a potential destructive form of government with .22s and shotguns? To me guns = Freedom.

That said until you own and shoot an AR15, M1A, a Barrett, a FAL, or a HK91 you don't know what fun your missing.

Anytime you're up this way you're welcome to join me at the range to show you exactly what I mean.

All that aside, not because I think it's trivial but because I've said it before.

High power rifle rounds are tons of fun to shoot. I shot a high power competition last year with M1 Garands, and it is a very challenging thing to shoot 200+ yards. Something a .22 is just not meant to do. Unless you lengthen and shape the slug for better aerodynamics, and you put a centerfire cartridge behind it with lotsa powder, you know, kinda like the round the AR shoots.

As Figment said, the .50Cal rifles we are talking about here were not designed for the military or copied from military weapons. They were designed by and for extremely long range target shooting competitions. The military watched these guys making incredible shots and decided to call up Barrett for sniper rifles to issue.

I also dig the CheyTac LRRS .408. ....sub-MOA accuracy at ranges of up to 2500 yards and at ranges beyond 700 meters the .408 bullet has more energy than the standard .50BMG ball bullet. The .408 cartridge also is lighter than .50BMG cartridge by about 1/3, and generates less recoil.
Props to the SASR but the USMC is already testing this up and coming round.

All that said I enjoy shooting my M4gery most of all.

The very freedom you hold so dearly (and that you trumpet so loudly) could also get you and yours killed. If some freedom isn't infringed upon, how the heck is the gov't going to protect you?

I agree that the ban of a single gun isn't doing much to joe public (especially if you can still buy it before year's end), and I think that this law is nothing but propaganda to show you that the guy you voted for is actually doing something with your tax money.

But seriously, just because it's fun doesn't mean it should continue to be allowed.

I mean, stunnas think it's fun doing mile long wheelies too, and we berate them for making our insurance artificially escalated. No one else says boo.

Ban the gun(s), you can still "play" with a .22

Fun isn't my reason for being pro gun.

Go back to feudal europe. Goto Nazi Germany. Oppressive governmental systems always ban weapons as soon as they can. If you want a population completely under control of the government, you can't allow them to be armed. The framers of the most perfect document written by man knew this and included it second on the list of rights for a reason.

Goto the Rodney King Riots, where we see examples of what can happen for a brief period of time when the police are not in control of an area.

Then, go look up violent crime stats in Britain and the increase since the basic banning of personal firearms ownership.

Gun laws are the illusion of safety, and it is easily perpetrated because the media has glamorized them to the point that they are these mythical death rays.

You won't see me blame stunnas for insurance rate increases because I have looked into it and all the data I see leaves me convinced they are not the reason. The reason are 50 YO men on Harleys that like to ride bar to bar.

But I like your stunna example. I'd bet Stunnas kill lots more people on percentages than gun owners. So we should ban the bikes the stunnas ride by your logic correct?

Heard a word of relief last week from a buddy at work. If I recall right. Barrett/President of Barrett Firearms and most prominent manufacturer of the gun using the BMG cartridge told Arnie to go ahead and throw the democrat dogs a bone.

Barrett is already working on a replacement 50 cal cartridge and barrel that functions better than the BMG cartridge. Apparently the BMG cartridge with its fluted neck is not as efficient as a straightjacket cartridge.

So Arnie is just playing the game with no need to worry.
