| Bush vs Kerry Debates Anyone going to watch?
While I'm not thrilled with the canned format, I plan to watch them.
My predictions?
Due to Bush being a poor motivational speaker, I think Kerry will come out ahead in the debates. This will erode Bush's current poll lead, and put them in a dead heat going into the election.
Bring it on.....

Bring it on..... | I'll be watching them on tape (coaching football practice Thu night), but my predictions are the same as yours. |

| Re: Bush vs Kerry Debates Historically (not hysterically), the expectations for Bush are so low in any debate that he goes into, that when he does even halfway well, he winds up winning because it's so much more than anyone expected.
Kerry is so wooden and stiff, that although he may have more eloquent answers, I'm not sure the American public will ever find him actually likable, the way many do Bush.
I say it'll be a draw, with each camp still as entrenched for their guy as they were going in, and not much movement among the few undecideds that exist out there. |

| Re: Bush vs Kerry Debates It really doesn't matter who actually has a better showing. Either way, the media will spin the **** out of it in kerry's favor, just as they do with everything else. The way they are set up and the locations already favor kerry, as does the fact that there will be no questions as to his voting history in the Senate.
Bush was supposed to lose horribly to gore also, but came out on top of those.
In the end, I'm 100% positive that the major media outlets will decry kerry the winner. I will be watching them for the amusement factor. |

It's basically been reduced to a two-party press conference. Read More Here

| Re: Bush vs Kerry Debates Third-party candidates let on stage have significantly enhanced debate quality at no cost. In 1992, for example, Perot created disagreement over almost every topic. He pushed discussion of the federal deficit, the hazardous influence of special interests, and the loss of manufacturing jobs due to trade agreements onto center stage. (Not coincidentally, in the ensuing years, Bill Clinton balanced the budget, and Bush signed the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill.)
That was the first time I've ever really listened to debates. I believe million of Americans were awoken by Perot's "honest" assessment of our country's state, his hatred towards selfish/self serving special interest crooks/lobbyist, campaign finance scams, high officiating government positions be awarded to unqualified personnel as a return favor, etc. Quite a few people were , to hear SOMEONE address the issues without sugar-coating everything. He pointed out that America was in serious trouble in the global market, the deficit was becoming unfixable, Social Security would soon be desolved, and so on, and so on. Not to put the country in a panic, but to awaken them, open their eyes to this ongoing crap that he had finally had enough of and was going to try and do something about it. He pointed out huge over spending and wasteful projects. He asked if successful CEOs and CFOs would concur with spending habits and investments made by our government/tax money. Why doesn't our government hire/elect successful professionals as project management leaders, accountants, consultants, etc. (Anyone see the movie Dave?)
Remember Perot's hostage rescue? No apologizes, called scum bags...scum bags and made no bones about killing them or any dictator that threatens the United States way of life.
Perot's growing support really started getting the 2 parties nervous (for a while anyway)...These aren't exact quotes obviously, but I remember when..."why in the hell are we paying Defense Department contractors who haven't produced what they've promised or have missed their deadlines and just keep delaying and increasing original project costs? Why don't we hold those Defense Contractor's accountable? Sorry, you're not getting paid in advance or at all if the project isn't completed. And NO, we're not going to pay $3000.00 (OF OUR TAXES) for a toilet seat!!! WHO'S DOING THE ACCOUNT IN THIS COUNTRY? WE HAVE TO GET AMERICA'S LAZY, OVERPRICED, CROOKED POLITITIONS OUT OF OFFICE AND START ELECTING HONEST TOP NOTCH PROFESSIONALS WHO TRULY WANT TO TURN THIS COUNTRY AROUND INTO A COMPETITIVE WORLD LEADER. WE SHOULD AUDIT EVERYTHING SPENT, QUESTION THE RIDICULOUS, CUT THE USELESS. WE SHOULD RUN THIS GOVERNMENT AS IF IT WERE A BUSINESS. NO FREE PASSES, GOOD INVESTMENTS, RECLAIM DEBTS OWED, NO FRIVOLOUS SPENDING. WE SHOULD RUN THE CROOKS OUT AND RECLAIM THE GOVERNMENT TO SERVE IT'S PEOPLE, NOT CORPORATIONS. NO MORE LOBBYISTS DICTATING THIS COUNTRY'S DIRECTION."
Yea, maybe somewhat unrealistic, but it opened my eyes. He answered a question? Didn't skirt the issue? Told it how it was whether it was what Americans wanted to hear or not. He yelled out to Americans that this country/government was in serious trouble and voters had better wake up. Don't take the same lame false promises of these candidates/parties who just want to appease you until they're in office and then follow the same lobbyist and campaign donator's requests.
I truly hope that someday a serious third party will come forward and re-open everyone's eyes to where this country is now and where it's headed. The 2 party system is now an insult to the voter's intelligence (JMHO). Don't believe me? Just watch the debate and tell me if a single question is actually answered without the political 20 minute speech which leaves you scratching your head and wondering what the hell the question was in the first place. This will be a joke, I'll start clearing a lane on the floor as well.
Will they allow Bush to wear an ear piece? If not, now that I think about it, this might be somewhat entertaining [the 2000 Bush sigh]. |

| Re: Bush vs Kerry Debates Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Of course after "Campaign Finance Reform" you are free to speak if you don't name a candidate and file the paper work with the government, by law.
Then the Supreme Court said this is necessary to avoid the appearance of corruption.
Yep why just appear corrupt when you can be corrupt.
PS The preceding used no candidates names and was approved by sheepofblue for president campaign

Bush wins going away because Kerry will be too slick tonight. I think the plain talk from the plain man wins this one. |

| Re: Bush vs Kerry Debates OK since I was denied secret service protection despite the death threats last election, and I was kept off the debates I will have to announce via other channels. The Sheep foreign policy not allowed on the debates is.....
Nuke 'em 'til they glow! Except the Brits cause they are alright and the Japanese because they make Hondas.

| Re: Bush vs Kerry Debates Did you guys see that one of the rules for the debates is that the candidates are not allowed to ask each other questions? However, they CAN ask rhetorical questions.
WTF is this "debate" for other than to sling mud? Not supposed to ask questions regarding voting history, either.
This is gonna be all about "I won three Purple Hearts, what did you do?". No questions about how kerry has voted the last 20 years, no question of why he misses more than three fourths of his Senate meetings, just the same old Vietnam crap.
The positive thing for Bush is that he comes off MUCH better publicly when not scripted. He's not a great speech reader, but when talking about things he believes strongly, he comes through quite well. |
