GIs, Families Trust Bush Over Kerry

How can this be...
Quote:
Poll: GIs, Families Trust Bush Over Kerry

By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - When asked whom they would trust as commander in chief, people in military service and their families chose President Bush (news - web sites) over Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites), a decorated Vietnam veteran, by almost a 3-to-1 margin.

Bush, who served in the Texas Air National Guard, was more trusted by 69 percent while 24 percent said they trusted Kerry more, according to the National Annenberg Election Survey released Friday.

Among all Americans, Bush has a narrower advantage on trust to be commander in chief, 50-41.

The military sample was far more likely to be Republican than Democratic, which could help explain the more favorable view of the president. Four in 10, 43 percent, of the military sample said they were Republicans, while 19 percent said Democrats and 27 percent independents.

Those in the military and their families have a more favorable view of Bush than Americans generally, and they take a more optimistic view about Iraq (news - web sites), the economy and the nation's direction.

A majority in the military sample, 64 percent, said the country is on the right track. Among Americans generally, 55 percent said the country is headed in the wrong direction.

The National Annenberg Election Survey found that seven in 10, 69 percent, had a favorable view of Bush. Only three in 10, 29 percent, had a favorable view of Kerry.

The Annenberg poll, which does not report head-to-head preferences, did not ask the military respondents whom they support for president. The report cited a 1948 law that prohibits polling members of the military about their voting intent.

The poll of 655 in the active military and their families was taken Sept. 22-Oct. 5 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Their answers were compared to those of 2,436 adults surveyed between Sept. 7-Oct. 3 with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Just listen to what Kerry has to say...along with his moral character and you'll find the answer.

I've been saying this from day one. Modern military doesn't care for him. But for those that served in Vietnam and served multiple tours even, have no respect for the man that was decorated, but disgraced his fellow soldiers after the war. He served 3 months I think I was told, all the Vietnam vets I know are NOT impressed by his service... Yet kerry continually promotes himself for his service, and that I am told, is why veterans care nothing for him!

OK, so let's get all the Republican military family figures togethor, cut out any polling of families who've lost their children, husbands, or wives in the war, and poll them as to who'd they would trust more. Baaaad Kerry, or Goooood George? Very valuable, scientific and informative poll there.

Hate to tell you man, but EVERYONE in the military knows MANY people that are not ever coming home. One of my friends is an NCO in the 82nd and he lost (8), count them EIGHT guys and he says he won't fight for kerry, but he'll continue to fight for bush, his family and those that he loves...

Another thing to remember, most republicans want to go out and get things for themselves, democrats want things given to them...

cc, you're missing my point entirely. These "polls" will be flooding in for next couple of weeks. Do you really think any of them are really credible? Horse hockey!!! Look for the poll you want to see and it'll soon appear. I love the "most americans" stats, or the vote of the undecided voter will probably go to...

I don't care if they are credible or not, they back my view. Can I be a politician now?

That poll was done by the Annenberg Public Policy Center...

Re: GIs, Families Trust Bush Over Kerry

I personally know a family that lost a son in Iraq, a guy I knew fairly well. They dislike kerry more than I do.

And my pal that spent a couple of years recently between Afghanistan and Iraq says he'll quit the Guard if kerry wins. Can't stand him, and won't be able to bad mouth him if kerry becomes Commander In Chief (shudder).

Re: GIs, Families Trust Bush Over Kerry

In another very unscientific, yet true poll, I asked my son, currently serving in Iraq, how he and his fellow Marines felt about the upcoming election. He said almost everyone he knows prefers Bush.

BTW, does anyone else find it interesting that Kerry and his Krew keep suggesting that Bush is going to reinstate the draft (in a shameless attempt to scare draft-age voters), even though Kerry is the one talking about adding many more people to our military?
