Well, it would be clear if you were living in my little Township of 2000 registered voters. I've been running as part of a 'slate' of five candidates seeking to unseat the Good Old Boy Network that has run this place for the last few decades. I've spent the last several months writing articles, debating, and going door to door. Between the 5 of us, we've met and 'identified' about 65% of the registered voters over the last few months. Of that 65%, we think about 58 to 63% will vote for us. So if the trend holds, we'll be in a position to change the way decisions are made here, get more information out, and find out where all the bodies are buried.

But having said that, we could lose our asses, or only one or two of us might win, and it will be a battle for the next four years.

But we gave them a run for their money, I'll tell you that. I'll let you know how we did when we find out, which will be last on the priority list for the voting officials, believe me. Sometime Wednesday afternoon, I think.


A last editorial comment. Vote your ballot from the bottom up. The local officials are far more likely to affect your lives than the guys in the ivory towers, for good or ill.

And whoever wins, lets make an effort to heal the rifts in the country. It's too divided and too personal. The truth of the matter is that we're strong enough to endure four years of either of these guys, which says a lot for our system, if you ask me.

Great post - especially these last two paragraphs. It's amazing how much can happen in your local town/city of which most people aren't even aware. As an example, our city has the highest rate of taxation for public schools in our county, and we have two more propositions on the ballot to raise taxes even more.

I'd like to go a step further and say that not only should you vote for local officials, you should also be sure to have an educated opinion before doing so. There's a lot of hype this election about "getting the vote out", and while it's great to see people exercising their Constitutional right to vote, an uneducated vote can be dangerous. Just because we have the right to choose who is in the various positions of power doesn't mean we should do so blindly because we will then have no idea what we're getting.

I fully agree with you here, ER. Well, except one part. You know as well as I do that there isn't actually a Constitutional right to vote. We have a resposibility to vote - and be informed, and we do have "voting rights", but there is no Constitutional right to vote.

And Figment, those good old boys that want to pave the place and continue with their Cronyism are hiding behind their R designation in an R district. We had to challenge them as D's, though partisan issues aren't really in play here, and I'm not a member of either party.

So the more people park their thought processes and vote straight ticket, the more yokels are able to slip between the cracks.

Last night, I went out till after dark to get a few more votes, and tallied 11. Out of 1700 cast today, I won by 12.

Familiar with the area I grew up in Milford (home of Camp Dearborn, Kensington Metropark and GM Proving Grounds) just north of you

I agree completely. In my case, I have a few associations I belong to that track all the voting records for each party. I study those before I vote and so it made no sense to select each candidate separately.
