Hoping this is true...Dean to head the DNC?

Dean to head the DNC?

Quote:
Howard Dean Considering Bid to Chair Dems

Mon Nov 8,10:50 PM ET U.S. National - AP

By CHRISTOPHER GRAFF, Associated Press Writer

MONTPELIER, Vt. - Former presidential candidate Howard Dean (news - web sites) is considering a bid to become chairman of the national Democratic Party.

"He told me he was thinking about it," Steve Grossman, himself a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee (news - web sites), said Monday. Grossman was a Dean backer during the former Vermont governor's failed presidential bid.

Dean, who was in Albany, N.Y., Monday night to give a speech, said he hasn't decided about the top party job, noting he'd received thousands of e-mails urging him to try for it. He said he's still uncertain about his future.

"It's a lot easier to run for president when you don't know what you're getting into," he said. "I will stay involved, believe me."

During his Albany speech, Dean said President Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election was not a mandate to ignore the views of those who voted against him.

"We're not retreating. We're not giving up," Dean told an audience of nearly 1,000. "We're not going to stop fighting because we're going to stand up for ordinary Americans even though the President doesn't."

Earlier Monday, his spokeswoman, Laura Gross, said "it was far too early to be speculating" on Dean's becoming party chairman. "The election was less than a week ago."

The roughly 240 members of the DNC will elect a new chair early next year. Several names are already being mentioned, including former Clinton aide Harold Ickes; Donna Brazile, who ran Al Gore (news - web sites)'s presidential campaign, and Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack.

Grossman said it is not too soon for Democrats to focus on their future leadership.

"I strongly urged (Dean) to seek the position," he said. "Howard is a voice of political empowerment and that to me is important, for the Democrats to get their sea legs back as quickly as possible, to get beyond the disappointment of the last week and to believe there is a bright future ahead for the Democratic Party."

Dean has been outspoken since the beginning of his presidential bid in saying that the Democratic Party must establish a separate and unique identity from Republicans.

Grossman said that if Dean were to run for DNC chair, he would need to pledge that he would serve the full four-year term, thus ruling out a presidential bid in 2008.

The next chairman will replace Terry McAuliffe, whose term is ending.

Glad to see the Dems have learned from the last election and are considering a return to a more moderate approach.

And you know something? You know something?

Not only are we going to New Hampshire ... we're going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York. And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan. And then we're going to Washington, D.C. To take back the White House. Yeah!

We will not give up.

We will not give up in New Hampshire. We will not give up in South Carolina. We will not give up in Arizona or New Mexico, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan.

Aaaaaaaaaggggghhhhhhh!!!!!

He's probably more intelligent and sane than McAuliffe.

Re: Hoping this is true...Dean to head the DNC?

Okay...next question.

Will Dean make it to the mid-terms, or will the DNC can him for someone that's can actually do the job?

Personally, I'm hoping they keep the nutjob for awhile longer...

Re: Hoping this is true...Dean to head the DNC?

They'll keep him as long as his phenomenal record of fundraising stays intact. If the magical ability to whip the faithful up into a tsunami of dollars deserts him, they'll dump his ass. He did, after all, insult and minimize most of the mainstream dem office holders in the last election, and his ability to gather the minority base is weak.

Besides, the presumptive candidates Clinton and Edwards are not fans.

Neither party seems capable of developing a strategy that reaches beyond the extreme edges of their constituencies, because that's where the money is. Makes me wonder how a candidate would fare if he or she publically told the extremists to shut the **** up.

At this point, I've almost dispaired of ever seeing Dan Gurney as president.
