Democracy in Ukraine

Announcement today is good news, ensuring a rerun of the second round of the presidential elections.

I don't know if this has received much media attention in the US, but it's a critical issue to see if the Ukraine heads towards a democratic, capitalist future or heads back into the increasingly autocratic Russian sphere of influence. In the old days, Putin's influence would have been sufficient to have ensured his candidate won. Putin is getting increasingly used to democracy, Russian-style, and clearly hoped it would work in the Ukraine.

It's good to see those people out on the streets and acting to enhance their democratic rights. Looks like the judges are supporting them today.

Yes there was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal that speculated this could effect the Soviets if the Ukranians were successful. A successful peaceful rejection of rigged elections would make it harder for the Soviets to rig things also was the thought.
