Nothing "solid" but the US defense department has leaked that the missile was intercepted by an unknown flying object. From what I have been told by a reliable source the missile control room seemed to have a “lock-up” when the object first appeared. The US defense department is not ruling out heavy electromagnetic interference, by a domestic source…yet this seems to be speculation at best.

Sounds like normal scientific process to me...do a series of tests to eventually find a working method. Some are bound to fail. Learn from the failures and move on.
