There is such a system in place in the Pacific, courtesy of the Japanese who drove the project. There is no such system for the Atlantic nor Indian Oceans. Perhaps this tragic event will get the various nations of their butts and create the early-warning systems needed.

The largest component of it's efficacy in the Pacific is not the additional bouys, but the education... People are taught the dangers and warning signs, and how to act appropriately....

| Re: surfs up Sitting here in Singapore at the moment and as you can imagine the TV is full of it. Currently stating 67000 dead. Sumatra, literally just just over the water, was particularly badly hit.
BTW Australia has just announced that it will start a project to give early warnings of Tsunamis. |

| Re: surfs up Why the hell is this in the politics forum? This isnt a political discussion. You people really are ****ed in the head. Turning a disaster like this into a political issue is demented. But I guess as it hasnt affected the US all that much then you guys dont really give a toss. I think you've really shown your true colours. This disaster makes Sept 11 look like a car crash, yet you demonstrate nothing but contempt for those tens of thousands that have died by trying to score points from it. This isnt about the domocrats, or the republicans, or whether Bush is a good pres or any crap that you are trying to inject into the discussion, hell its not even focused on the US(maybe thats the problem). Get over yourselves. |

Why did it need to be made poiltical? Cause thats the only way americans can feel sorry for themselves. Without the issue of the UN, the US isnt much of a victim in this situation. |

Don't stereotype all of us because of bush... | Its not animosity towards the US. Its animosity toward the attitude that the US is the be-all-and-end-all. This is a terrible tragedy, I personally am fairly grief stricken. Obviously many on this site dont give two shits about anyone but themselves. If it has nothing to do with the US they will either make fun of it, or find some way to make the US a victim. This topic has nothing to do with Bush. I dont give a flying **** about Bush. I do however think of all the tens of thousands of people who were lost on boxing day, and all those who are going to suffer for many, many years to come. Why do some people need to try and forward their own shitty little political agendas during such a terrible time? They need to get over themselves. |

Get over yourself. This has nothing to do with the US. My opinion on the US has not changed a tiny ****ing bit. This is not about the US. I dont care about the US. Get the **** over it. There is something far more pressing than what I think of the US.
The death toll has just passed 80,000 people. 80,000 people have died, millions more have absolutely nothing left but all you can crap on about is what I think of you, and how the US is a victim in all of this. There are many victims, and the US, like Australia, got off very, very lightly. |

Peace, out, see ya both later... | This has nothing to so with the US. I dont care what country these morons come from, their nation has nothing to do with this issue. If they were from Uzbekistan I would still feel the way I do, and would still express what I think about them. I dont get it, this has nothing to do with the US, nor its citizens. I am disgusted at the attitudes of some people, not their nation. If one of the Aussie crew were to make a remark like "surfs up" or carry on like some have I would be having a go at them too. |
