| Condy's Confirmation Hearings: SoS C. Rice's Sec. of State confirmation hearings are today......
How many people will she chew up and spit out during the course of events?
I also understand Kerry sits on the panel...this should be an interesting mini-drama...

| Re: Condy's Confirmation Hearings: SoS I love the cowardice of these people....Boxer, Biden, et al....
They prattle on in grandiose fashion about their concerns, but don't have the conviction in their own "beliefs" to vote against her.....
Chickenshit imho....

| Re: Condy's Confirmation Hearings: SoS Looks like the vote was 16:2 with the 2 dissenting votes cast by Boxer and John Kerry.
Couple this mandate with the one given to W in November, and what you have is a ringing endorsement of the Bush doctrine imho....

Lugar should just call a recess if that is the case...and pick it up next week....this is silly....

Sorry, haven't fomented in politics for awhile. | Illiterate? She previously served as provost of Stanford University. Rice held the position of provost for six years, during which time she served as the chief academic and budget officer of the university.
Rice first came to Stanford in 1981 as a fellow in the arms control and disarmament program. She was a tenured professor in the university's political science department and was a Hoover Institution national fellow from 1985 until 1986.
Following her initial Hoover Institution affiliation, Rice went to Washington, D.C. to work on nuclear strategic planning at the Joint Chiefs of Staff as part of a Council on Foreign Relations fellowship. She came back to Stanford when the fellowship ended.
Rice returned to Washington in 1989 when she was director of Soviet and East European affairs with the National Security Council. She also was appointed special assistant to the president for national security affairs and senior director for Soviet affairs at the National Security Council under President George Bush. In those roles, she helped bring democratic reforms to Poland, and played a vital role in crafting many of the Bush administration's policies with the former Soviet Union.
Rice's professional activities since returning to Stanford were not limited to the university. She cofounded the Center for a New Generation, an after-school academy in East Palo Alto, California, and is a corporate board member for Chevron, the Hewlett Foundation, and Charles Schwab. In addition, Rice is a member of J.P. Morgan's international advisory council.
Rice is a Council of Foreign Relations member, a National Endowment for the Humanities trustee, and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
She has written numerous articles and several books on international relations and foreign affairs, including Germany Unified and Europe Transformed: A Study in Statecraft, with Philip Zelikow (Harvard University Press, 1995).
Rice enrolled at the University of Denver at the age of 15, graduating at 19 with a bachelor's degree in political science (cum laude). She earned a master's degree at the University of Notre Dame and a doctorate from the University of Denver's Graduate School of International Studies. Both of her advanced degrees are also in political science. |

| Re: Condy's Confirmation Hearings: SoS Sorry whip, I didn't (want to) take time to read the whole thing. I guess my point was, OK, maybe she is intelligent (all the more scarey, bad combination), but she is still as detrimental to our country as the rest of her cohorts. How can anyone possibly think this (Vietnam all over again) war is sane?!
And please, don't think I don't admire to the max what your son and his comrades are doing for our country! It's just that I don't think your children should have been thrust into this situation in the first place. |

Not beating the GW drum...nor am I beating you down half-pint...but I have to figure there's a lot of stuff you and I don't know about what is actually happening. I'm not suggesting blind faith but... Opposing just to oppose might not be the most productive avenue. Decisions are made with and more often without our indivdual input...we as Americans are stuck with the fallout, good or bad. Not saying you have to agree just try to understand that you are not at the epicenter of the facts just because you read the Enquirer...
I.E. Get off your high horse...you are becoming an everybitasannoyingantiBDA.
Just my humble onion.
J
BTW...How exactly, in detail please, would you handle our situation in Iraq if you were the one sworn in today?

Surely you have seen the Italian term "con dolcezza" on some sheet music...
con - "with"
dolcezza - "sweetness"
She comes from a musical family.....and if you have ever heard her play, the choice of names could not have been a better choice.
Actually, she is one of the few people that I truly say I admire. I would love to spend an evening around the dinner table with her one time.....

While on the basis of credentials Condoleeza wins, Hillary is obviously an intelligent woman. However I find the basis of her logic to be wrong
Of course if you really want a comparison to illustrate the dishonesty of the think back to Gore vs Bush; Genius vs Dunce. But which one dropped out of grad school and which one graduated Harvard Again I think both are reasonably intelligent men regardless of thier politics. However I voted against one 3 times |

I don't know how many people on this site have attended an Ivy League school, but knowing a bit about them I promise you, you don't have her history in academia without stellar intelligence and the drive to match.
You can dislike her politics, but don't attack her personally. There are lots of people smarter than you and I that completely disagree with our politics. It doesn't make them stupid or closed minded. They just have a different reality. |

| Re: Condy's Confirmation Hearings: SoS For sure....I tell you what amazes me about people like that, they are a whole order of magnitude up on the self actualization scale. It blows my mind to ponder how and why there can be such a disparity in otherwise similar human beings....
