| Chcken Little aka Global Warning While the chicken littles of the world run around and say "Global Warming is coming we are all going to die, Global Warming is coming we are all going to die,Global Warming is coming we are all going to die" the sheep says "Baa" and grazes on. Article quoting NASA. Now NASA is generally a reputable source but comparing now to 1800 is amazing. The article states that "Scientists use temperatures taken on land and on surfaces of the oceans". Now in 1800 how many reliable measurements were there from Montana? Also no satellites so ocean measurements would be much more limited. Also 200 years of weather is a blip. Junk science, I am going back to grazing a Mt Dew

I hear ya, but in the late 1700's, early 1800's, lots of passengers on ships, like Benjamin Franklin, carried thermometers and ran experiments tracking ocean currents. It was considered a popular thing to take measurements like this among "gentlemen". They did well enough to draw out pretty dang accurate maps of ocean currents back then.
I understand what you're saying, but don't discount the old timers.
All that besides, just because we're having a warm spat, doesn't tell me we're in "global warming" which I take generally to mean, man is heating up the globe.

While I am a bit ignorant on seafaring lore I think the timing of sea travel in pre/early-steam era was very seasonal.
Also I wonder what the tolerance of the older thermometers was (especially one on an exploratory trip). Further everyone has seen outlandish temps because the thermometer was on the hot side of the house or in the sun.

Beyond junk science. It's complete and utter |

People preferred to travel in the nice time of year, but they could go in winter too.
C'mon man, these guys were plenty smart to recognize the nuances of their instruments! Any idiot knows about a thermometer in direct sun, and these guys weren't idiots.
Check out The Lunar Men for an idea on the science of the mid to late 1700's by many of the men who started the industrial revolution and modernized science. Very entertaining read if you're a techie. I guarantee you'll have heard of all the "players" in the book, and used some of their data. |

| Re: Chcken Little aka Global Warning Not questioning the genius of some of the elders, nor some of the current folks. Having been to Greenfield Village in Dearborn Mi, I am humbled by the conclusions that were reached with absolute crap for equipment. But good data incorrectly used.... A lot of statistical studies seem to use to much extrapolation these days (especially in global warming and medicine). For instance what is the standard deviation of the data? It might be larger than the data jump. I am no expert in statistics but do know enough that a better lie is needed to fool me

More than 90% of Edison's so called inventions were made by employees or contractors, and most of the big stuff (light bulb, wax phonograph etc.) was actually invented by Nikoli Tesla. If Ford and Edison had prevailed, we would be using DC for household and industrial power and your washing machine would have a servo motor the size of Jupiter just to rotate the drum.
Go to the Smithsonian sometime . . . the myth prevails. Edison was the Bill Gates of his time, a marketing genius, but couldn't write 2 coherent lines of code . . .
Marconi didn't invent the radio either . . . Tesla's patent predates his by more than 2 years.

| Re: Chcken Little aka Global Warning i'm not going to bother arguing whether or not global warming is mans work or not, but I will say that it is a bit i narrow minded to assume that all the polution we dump into the air is having zero effect on the worlds weather. Whether the effect is global warming, global cooling, or just plain global stuffing up, there is sure to be some effect.
