The latest EU news...

If Europe fails in their quest to supplant the US, then I would imagine we need to learn how to speak Chinese...

European Leaders May Scrap Constitution
AP - 1 hour, 12 minutes ago
THE HAGUE, Netherlands - European leaders faced the possibility of having to scrap the proposed EU constitution Thursday after Dutch voters rejected it by a massive margin, voicing their concern over dwindling national identity in a rapidly expanding union and increasingly powerful bureaucrats. The outcome in the Netherlands from the referendum Wednesday — three days after a similar vote in France — was likely to halt the European momentum, which had been welcomed by some as creating a new world power but disdained by others as smothering their cultures in a vast superstate.

One interesting follow on question is whether Turkey, now seemingly rejected by the EU members, can form the kernel of a middle-eastern grouping of democratic moslem states.

Umm let's see that would be Turkey and..... Hopefully Iraq in a bit but I really cannot think of another currently. The rest are shining examples of where not to live.

I feel for these small countries that have worked so hard making strides toward democratization in order to chase the economic carrots dangled by the prospect of joining the union....
They have done outstanding work only to be backstabbed in the worst way by founding EU members...pathetic...

It's like the Treaty of Versailles all over again....bickering in Europe will pave the way for war once again....

And hopefully this time we won't waste our time and troops for absolutely nothing like twice before.

Most of 'em are already in, with Bulgaria and Rumania left hanging as aspirants subject to national parliaments' approval. Turkey doesn't fit "small" by any definition: hence the problem. It would be like accepting Mexico as the next US state with free mobility of labour and automatic enrollment in healthcare and social security programmes. It might be a good idea, but you'd want to check the US population was happy with it first.

Did you expect that the ex Soviet Republics past Ukraine would be welcomed into the EU? I'm sure the US would be happier with an Asian AFTA to include perhaps Turkey, Iraq, etc.

Re: Will France vote Oui or Non on EU Treaty?

Looks like my man Tony put the coup de grace on the EU treaty by passing on a referendum...

I love that guy....great to see a man with a serious set of pills during these times of politically correct pansy leaders...

Between Bush, Blair & Howard, I am beginning to think that this world may get back on the right path after all....

Could be that his political agenda and that of a majority of European states could be in synch for a while.

At any rate, BVI is an awesome place. I love the sail boats. mmm yum. Fortunately, they fall in my work territory...

If you're in and around Roat Town, there's a fantastic restaurant on the hill on them main road out of town (south/west side of the harbour). I don't remember the name... It's before you get to Pelican reef and it's on the island side of the road up a steep path.

There's also Pusser's pub for a few pints.

My favourite place to eat is at the Marina right in downtown. The lobsters are absolutely massive and their special of the day is always "cold pumpkin soup". It's good. yum.
