| Re: Just one of the reasons I voted for Bush... Is there any genuine reason why Australians are so hung up and who our President is?
Don't you folks have your own leaders?
If so, do they do anything? To listen to you Aussies whine, one would swear President Bush is running your country as well. |

Yes Australia does have it's own leaders but the Prime Minister John Howard has his head so far up Bush's arse that he might as well be leading the country. This IS NOT popular with Australians at all.
Most Americans have no idea how bad Bush is making the US look to the rest of the world. Or they simply dont give a ****.... |

Well then, you need to take that up with Mr. Howard. |

Another tip might be for him to post more about motorcycles, and less about political crap he can't change...

Well, technically, there is no point really arguing about it. the citizens of the big 3 involved have all voted on the issue - and you'll notice that Bush, Howard and Blair are all still in office. so the publis had their chance to speak, and it seams, we all approved (or chose to vote on economics or lower interest rates instead of wars and political prisoners in other countries).
By the way, it's the policies people don't like, not the Pres himself (or the 2 PM's, for that matter) - whether they realise it or not. you can have guns, and no gay marraige, and whatever else - that is what you voted for, what you want, and what you should get. We, in Aus, voted for the promise of low interest rates - were lied to, and now the people are pissed - too late, gotta wait 4 more years. Goes to show how stupid the general public really is...

| Re: Just one of the reasons I voted for Bush... Just on a side not, I find it interesting that the general publis in aus was so pissed about the Schapelle Corby case (accused and found guilty of carrying 4kg of marijuana into Bali in her Boogie board bag)
I just wonder, if she were not in her 20's, with a pretty face, long hair and big tits, but was a haggard looking middle aged man, would anyone have cared given the same circumstances? We had 2 Aussie in Guantanamo Bay, being held for 2 years without charge, and no one really cared - sure, the accasional blurb on the news, a bit of anger, butinSchapelles case, she was actually charged, and, realistically, would have probably been found guilty in just about any court of law - be it Aus, the US or Indonesia, and yet, she was in the news every day for months and months, with overwhelming public sympathy. Just something to consider..
rant off...

Then again as I mentioned earlier, many of them simply don't give a ****.... |

Argh, ok, I'll bite...
the point is, Mandu Habib (sp?) was held by the US govt for 2 years, without charge. Can you imagine 2 years of your life spent behind bars for no reason - like really - no reason.
I can understand being detained for, say, a month, because someone feels I may be a terrorist. I'd be pissed, but I could accept it - and would expect to be dealt with in a reasonable manner. but 2 years? And there was no charge, or evidence... The US Govt and people would be outraged if one of their nationals was held by an Arab state on grounds of, say, spying, without actually being charged. Let alone multiple US citizens.
Treat others as you wish to be treated - it works.

| Re: Just one of the reasons I voted for Bush... I said NOTHING about those fellows being terrorists....only that the lady in question WASN'T....
As far as the Golden Rule lecture...maybe you should give it to your countrymen who stood by and ignored them while they languished in jail.
So the US is evil for detaining them...but your countrymen get a pass because they turned a blind eye...
