| The delicious pleasure called anti-americanism THis is an editorial I read in a recent Macleans magazine: http://www.macleans.ca/switchboard/e..._108623_108623

My age group (twenty-somethings) are the worst. We've been inundated with a constant barrage of anti-American messages since childhood. This country has been controlled by the Liberal Party since long before I was allowed to vote. Their "ministry of truth", er, CBC has done an excellent job dumping their leftist **** on us from a young age, and the stench is unbearable.
Canadians need to realize how much they need America. Without you, we don't have an economy. And when that North Korean missile comes streaking overhead, we had better thank the stars for your defenses.
Canadians love their country. I love my country. I think it's the best country in the world to live in. There is a newer generation of Canadians (mine) that wants desperately to feel patriotic and proud, like you. The problem is, they think that bashing Americans makes them sound patriotic.
There is a strong conservative movement in western Canada that would like to change all of this. There are those of us that like the idea of a stronger, freer, wealthier Canada. We consider America our friend and ally. The current Liberal government and their propaganda machine have successfully convinced central Canada (where the voting majority lives) that pro-Americanism and pro-conservativism is equivalent to pro-war, pro-Bush, pro-life, pro Christian fundamentalism, etc. The fact that so many Canadians continue to absorb this tripe makes me feel ill.
Unfortunately, it isn't you (or me for that matter) that Canadians need to hear this from. Your editorial here will be cursed at, you will be labeled a Christian Fundamentalist, and certainly hundreds of letters will pour into this magazine to point out how truly wrong YOU are.
Until Canadians are ready to elect a responsible government that knows the USA's true importance to us, I'm afraid the "bashing" will only get worse. And until that responsible government is elected, I will continue to browse the Arizona and Texas classifieds. I can emigrate to the US, do the same job I do here, while making more money, paying less taxes and enjoying more freedom. I hope that I don't have to move; I love my country. I hope that Canada can eventually return to a time when we were proud for the right reasons, and America was our friend. | |

Tell him to get down here and help us fight our own government for freedom...
Canada as a formal nation, was largely founded by people who disagreed with the "patriots" and their fight with Britain.
I think it's natural there is a strong sense of discord running deep in Canada-US relations.
It takes a truly free-thinker to get past the nonsensical tripe politicians use to incite people to vote for them. |

All that was meant, is that Canada was originally made up of people who wanted to stay "loyal" subjects of the British Empire.
