Cheney's ass in a wringer?

The guys in power never learn.. The law applies to you, too.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/25/politics/25leak.html?hp&ex=1130212800&en=ba1361e3bd1bec47&e i=5094&partner=homepage

Quote:
It would not be illegal for either Mr. Cheney or Mr. Libby, both of whom are presumably cleared to know the government's deepest secrets, to discuss a C.I.A. officer or her link to a critic of the administration. But any effort by Mr. Libby to steer investigators away from his conversation with Mr. Cheney could be considered by Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the special counsel in the case, to be an illegal effort to impede the inquiry.

This scandal is dead. Remember, people are too dumb to stay mad. Or maybe that's just Canada.

What cookie jar?

The charges are laughable. A consolation prize for all the liberlas who were drooling over the fact that Libby , Rove, and Cheney were all obviously guilty and going down hard.

The only person found guilty of anything was Libby. And what was he found guilty of? Lying about something he didn't even need to lie about. He should have been charged with outright stupidity.

Merry Fitzmas, indeed.

Re: Cheney's ass in a wringer?

Put what woman at risk?
Plame was NOT a covert agent. Her neighbors, family and many others knew she worked for the CIA. She had been a desk jockey for years.
Her own husband was on record for telling people where she worked.
All Libby was indicted for was not telling the whole truth. Same thing Wilson got did, but without indictments.

As Brother Bake has suggested, you may want to read the actual indictments.

Based upon both of your posts here it seems that you are under the assumption that Libby has been charged with leaking Plames name to the press. That is completely false.

And actually, Plame was indeed "covert" ( )inasmuch as she worked for the Counterproliferation Department.

Reminds me of the SNL skit where Gilda says "Nevermind" at the end or when they asked NFL Ref (John Goodman) how he could call a game with his head up his ass.

So okay...to those that are following this issue...who will Novak name as the source, and under what circumstances was it given to him that did not make him subject to subpoena....

Why will Novak have to name someone? I doubt his story or his stance is going to change after he held out for 22 months.

But at this point he could just say it was Miller and be done with it.

The 1982 statute under which anyone who divulged her name would be prosecuted clearly states she must have been in the field in the last 5 years.

True, she worked in a specific department where anyone could claim to be "covert", but when many around her knew where she worked, and she hadn't been in the field for over 5 years, then according to the basics of the law, it doesn't really matter.

Hence the quotation marks around covert.

And even then, just as you say, there was no violation of the IIPA.

He doesn't, but stated he would when the leak investigation was over. I don't think it will be Miller, as he claims 2 government sources.

The real fun is trying to understand the reason he wasn't subpoenaed...
