I had some folks at work tell me the Kanye West made his statements about Bush mainly to sell records(which I found to be totally assinine b/c his album was #1 in the country at the time and is still doing quite well, but yet I digress)...so, I guess 50 Cent is in need of another #1, album, too? or maybe he made his comments to promote his upcoming movie?

Well it's nice to see an entertainer refute bullshit where he sees it, if that was his aim.

That said, any idiot that goes to an entertainer, Kanye, 50¢, Michael Moore, Rush Limbaugh et al for political knowledge is a lost cause. They all have a reason to say what they do, but it has nothing to do with "fact". Normally much more to do with the Benjamins.

Yep, I'll agree with you there about political knowledge...if you're not inclined enough to research the facts and think for yourself, then you deserve your fate....

I will disagree with you though about 50's, Kanye's, or any other entertainer's motives about "some" comments they make....for instance, I think it would be very near-sighted of Kanye to make his statements to promote his album, record or video....in my opinion, those statements would turn off some of his potential buyers...but in any case, as we can see, it hasn't had any affect at all of his album sales...oh well....

I don't think Kanye W. made those statements for record sales. Personally, I think he made them because he believed them. (Not arguing the validity)

As for 50...he probably made them out of a combination of record promotion, and just plain dislike for KW...

When Kanye made those statements it put a lot of people in a pickle...I enjoy his music, but disagree with his politics, so that forces you to make some interesting compromises...

People make their whole career on political partisanship.

Michael Moore was a failed author until he started his anti-America routines.

I know the people you mention weren't necessarily failed, but this is nothing even close to new in music.

Listen to any 60's album. Listen to a band like System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine...almost everything they sing about is radically politically polarized.

PT Barnum long ago figured out, and capitalized on the fact that "Any publicity is good publicity".

I think what he said was taking the easy way out... do people really believe that Bush has it out for black Americans?

Actually he may be grooming the first black president in US history.

I can honestly say that I had never heard of Kanye West before he popped off.
I also don't know that I've heard any of his "music", as I don't know how long he's been around, whether he is just another rapper or if he actually sings.

I just took it as wanting/needing the spotlight.

I know what you mean. They are political, in that they are anti-establishment (where they see abuse), but I'll agree they aren't quite so against specific people.

They're okay. Nothing ground breaking and Chris Cornell wears on me after awhile. I haven't listened to the new album yet. Maybe this afternoon.

The first Audioslave CD was great. From the songs I've heard on the radio, I have no desire whatsoever to pick up the new one.

Like some of the others, I like Rage and System of a Down but I just have to ignore the words sometimes.
