The more I think about it, the more I disagree. Most of the "immigrants" I know are here because they found better jobs here and/or their home country is an unstable mess. They're proud Filipinos, Brits, Brazilians etc etc but have found the best opportunities abroad. Most I know plan to go home one day. And most I know, stick with other immigrants from their country.
I think the difference is that we are an immigrant nation. We are all immigrants, and we are used to integrating them (us). It is not so in Europe, or most of the world for that matter. | Certainly it was a generalization. But here is more.
The "groups" are in fact politicians claiming to represent the "group" vs all citizens (demogogues)
I think the folks you are referring to are in fact legal aliens (I might be wrong) I am talking of immigrants. Also not always the first generation. In fact in times past the first generation actively encouraged adoption of american ways as they recognized the opportunity it would provide, unfortunately this is not as prevalent as in the past.
Agree with your last paragraph.

| Re: Paris Rioting When the Vikings came to Paris, The french gave them 6 1/2 tons of gold and silver to never return again. But that is exactly what they did for the next hundreds of years over and over again.
And the French have yet to discover the aire of their ways.

| Re: Paris Rioting C'mon, Bake. We're talking about France here.
The really amazing thing is that the worldwide press is actually covering the rioting instead of filling it's barely fish wrapper quality pages with venomous tirades against Chirac.
Imagine how this would be covered if it were happening here. I can see the headlines now:

| Re: Paris Rioting Q - Do you know why the trees are so large on the Champs Elysees?
A - Because the Germans liked marching in the shade.
It will be very interesting to see if Europe tries to mollify the radical Moslems in their midst, or reverts back to a xenophobic mentality, or what?
Proto, I think that article is right on the mark. Thanks for posting it ( even though it may have been troll food!)

Perhaps that's the issue, that the architects of the HLM housing in the suburbs didn't allow for riot troop access.
