I swear to dog I've never seen that post. I haven't even looked in that thread. He programs PLCs to run compressor stations, pumps, wells, etc... Basically wrote the SCADA for the entire Husky Oil Ram River oilfield. He's been singing the praises and curses of Allen-Bradley PLCs since I was a little kid and didn't know what the hell he was talking about. Come to think of it, I still don't.

Ahh Allen-Bradley PLC's, almost every machine at work has one or more in it. got a few cheap DirectLogic controllers to but they should be phased out completely soon.... I like being one of the few at work who actually can dig into them, makes for good job security.

Well the Christmas dinner politics debate was a great time, what with the current election. Add to the cast: Stepdad's father... (my grandfather for all intents and purposes) ... also American, WW2 Pacific veteran, very intelligent, also an engineer, very conservative.

Socialist sister: I don't like Stephen Harper (conservative party leader) he's creepy and he's too right-wing.

Grandfather: What part of his platform do you find to be 'too right wing'?

<cough, cough>

Sister changes the subject.

The conversation goes on for a while, flipping from Paul Martin to Jack Layton to Michael Ignatieff (google him) to Iraq to everything in between. Grandpa closes the debate with this:

"Well kids, here's what Canada needs: A new constitution, a new charter, an elected senate, and an elected president. Our system doesn't work."

Well put grandpa.
