We had spies before the CIA was created to allow said spies to operate beyond congressional control...and cause innumerable political crises for the country in the process. After an unbelievably spectacular string of failures, the CIA had oversight put on them(after Watergate), which Bush found occasion to remove recently.

If all the CIA did was spy, I wouldn't have any issue with the organization. Nor would most. But they also use methods, like Osama Bin Laden, to meddle with foreign soverign governments. Aka, terrorism. In this case, funded by you and I. And the CIA pretty much always fails...just like Osama will fail.

We have so many of these organizations doing the same thing, they're constantly bumping heads and getting in each other's way. The communication breakdowns, and agency rivalry does nothing but hurt you and I.

Dump the CIA, Dump the Dept of Homeland Security. We already have the FBI for man power, and NSA for data.

One of the last things that Kennedy did before his assassination was sign a bill that essentially ended the CIA.

It's not much of a stretch to think that that was one of the things that finally did him in.

When Johnson took over the office, it was one of the first things he overturned.

Bush Sr was head, Bush Jr took away oversight as soon as he could. Also not much of a stretch to see the connection.

Yes, the CIA is powerful. Did Kennedy get himself killed with his bill? We will NEVER EVER know.

But I think it is very clear, this organization is a liability to the country. Just because of the fact it does not feel the need to abide by our laws. This is exactly why I'm so passionate about the need to control these organizations, and NOT allow them unfettered access to whatever they please.

Seeing as Oswald was former military if I recall correctly and that JFK's brain mysteriously disappeared....it's entirely possible.

ND4, have you ever read On The Trail Of Assassins by Jim Garrison and Jim Mars? It's about Garrisons investigation of the Kennedy assassination, and the subsequent trial of Clay Shaw, the only man ever charged with conspiracy in the case. Good stuff. Very interesting read if you don't really buy into the Oswald myth.
