| Re: City of New Orleans to spend $2.7 mil on Mardi Gras OK here is a different point of view:
Mardi Gras provides work (before/after/during) for those unemployed in his district. With all the construction $$$ available, I am suprised anyone capable of work is unemployed
The city spent $2.7M but how much does tax revenue increase because of the expenditure?
Yes the will see the French Quarter and think things are good again. Then tourists will come back and the people of the 9th ward can get a job and pay for their own fixes rather than sucking off the government (part of what caused the problems to start with)
Sounds to me Mr Sylvain needs to get out in the evening and do some of his own cleaning. If his is done he could go help a neighbor. But it is easier for him to sit and whine although he is finding out much less effective

No brainer, if the facilities are there, it should happen. |

No brainer, if the facilities are there, it should happen. | OK assuming your number and a 9% sales tax that means the area netted $27M for the $2.7M on sales tax alone. There was also the jobs benefits and hotel tax rates are usually much higher than local sales tax. In short a huge gain for a small expenditure (also keeping the event going will pay for years to come)

| Re: City of New Orleans to spend $2.7 mil on Mardi Gras 2.7 million dollars could make a lot of chocolate milk.
But I'm with LTL here, it is a very wise investment. The city is going to turn a HUGE profit on that few million dollars in under a month. Why is this a bad idea? |

( the hurricane missed some of them) And the revenue that they will get for fines and bail fees and they don't even have a jail to house the prisoners they were housing at the time of the hurricane. The looters are in Hunt correction now and have not even been arrained yet + all the other prisoners that were in NO at the time. My point is thatthey are not paying to house the prisoners so free money for NO. It starts again. |

| Re: City of New Orleans to spend $2.7 mil on Mardi Gras I was there last night, what a friggin madhouse. I have nothing to compare it to having never been here before during Mardi Gras, but I think anything to take people's mind off of reality even for just a little bit might be a good thing. I even saw a place called the "Category 5 Bar" on Bourbon. |

| Re: City of New Orleans to spend $2.7 mil on Mardi Gras Come on! A lousy 2.7 million? The federal government is squandering BILLIONS on mismanaged relief efforts. This small sum, on the other hand, is supporting one of the things that gives New Orleans something to believe in. |
