| SC Girl Protests Ban of Confederate Flag Wear I don't understand why you'd want to wear confederate flag stuff, but I do feel it is protected under the first amendment just as the Supreme Court ruled. So I understand the urge to protest...the state is wrong in it's actions.
What I find really odd is this girl's little group. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060522/...erate_clothing Quote: |
"She's made a stand for her Southland," said Edgerton. A former local NAACP leader in North Carolina, he is known for dressing up in Confederate gear to emphasize what he describes as the role blacks played in voluntarily supporting the South in the Civil War.

| Re: SC Girl Protests Ban of Confederate Flag Wear I thought "The Southland" was the LA basin??? I guess I didn't get the memo...
I also believe that they should be able to wear what they want. One of the rubs of getting the right to free speech is having to put up with people saying what you don't want to hear. Man up and deal with it... I mean, good god, we are talking about a shirt. Now, if it said "Death to all people from Michigan" or something, now we are into a hate crime situation... but just the flag? |

| Re: SC Girl Protests Ban of Confederate Flag Wear not really sure how many blacks voluntarily backed the South in the Civil War. I'm guessing it was a pretty small percentage though.
I agree with LTL that they shouldn't wear any confederate stuff but do
have the right to. But on the other hand I wouldn't make a General Lee replica and leave the flag off it.

I got a few Detriot shirts like that "Detriot where the weak are killed and eaten" is one of them.... Hmm must make it a hate flock |

Strange... | Yeah, I saw this guy on Penn & Tellers. It was the show on reparations. I thought the dude was out of his mind, but he has a point, once heard, "that only a small majority of the South were slave owners during the civil war" -- and the flag to him is a source of cross-racial southern pride.

Minorities are not allowed to have independent thought. What would Jesse or Lewis say if they heard that? They wouldn't be happy at all.

| Re: SC Girl Protests Ban of Confederate Flag Wear They'd probably say that he had left the plantation, just like Jesse said about Condoleeza Rice.
I guess it's only racist when a white person says it, not when the most racist person in America, otherwise known as Jesse Jackson, says it. |

| Re: SC Girl Protests Ban of Confederate Flag Wear Just one more step in the pussification of America. Let her wear the shirt. Seriously, who is is it harming? Now if she were wearing a KKK shirt or something that was more blatantly racist, that'd be a different matter. |

| Re: SC Girl Protests Ban of Confederate Flag Wear Yeah, she's just an attention whore. Nothing new or interesting about that.
But I don't get the two black dudes "on the side of the South"...that's what's really bizarre to me. |
