| Compronmised security of the new voting machines ( how-to-hack video) In my rural neck of the woods, we're still pulling levers and making X's, but for you metropolitan voters, check out these hacking tips.. Anybody think "the other guys" wouldn't stoop to this?
Actually, there are few places where a curtain would mask your movements anymore.. How about a tamper-evident seal? The Blog | Marty Kaplan: How to Hack a Diebold Voting Machine | The Huffington Post |

That vid might cause a bit of a sensation.
Of course, as the first comment says, he doesn't say what needs to be on the thumbdrive...but no matter.
I like it, if it causes backlash against electronic, no paper trail voting, I'm in favor.
The worst possible reaction would be cameras to watch voters. |

I hear he was stocking up on thumbdrives
Now, if little BoPeep wins as a write in, then we know who the other "other guy" is |

| Re: Compronmised security of the new voting machines ( how-to-hack video) Oh god. This video is SOOOOO inaccurate.
Before everyone goes apeshit, understand that I am totally against electronic voting machines. I have been following this stuff for years.
Marty Kaplan would have you believe that you can walk in with a thumb drive and magically override everything on the machine. Nope. While it is possible to boot off of an "external" flash drive, the flash interfae is actually a SODIMM socket, and the logic circuitry is proprietary to Diebold. So, you would have to have a custom made flash board, have access to Diebold software to create your own new voting file, and then someow hack the rather simple encryption on the smart card.
It is so much easier to do vote rigging at the Registrar of Voters. There the diebold software uses the MS Jet DB engine (the same thing as Access) to keep track of the votes *after* all the crypto verification has taken place. One small VB script is all it would take to fix that, and that can be on a thumb drive.
California actually made these machines illegal, so I guess we don't have too much to worry about here. I am still going to be a polling precinct captain for the next election anyway. |

| Re: Compronmised security of the new voting machines ( how-to-hack video) I prefer the draw a line across the arrow card we have. You can go and hand recount if needed. Of course the real issue is the dead people and illegals voting. A lot of southern states are forbidden to require picture ID by law Also registering as a non-citizen is fairly easy. When my folks lived in FL there was an neighbor who bragged of voting absentee in NY and again in FL.

Nope. I need my thumb to hold my nose closed as I vote for any one of these assholes.
NDD, I didn't mean for your head to explode! This is meant to be entertainment, man! It is totally unlikely that someone would even attempt to do that in a booth, but It is possible that insiders "in the know" who have access and can collude together might rig an election in this manner.
It's been done many times in other ways., this would just be faster and less traceable. |
